Lily Aster Gottfried is famous as the daughter of deceased stand-up comedian and actor Gilbert Gottfried. Lily was born on June 12, 2007, in the first year of her parent’s marriage when her father was 52.

He had met Lily’s mother in the late 90s at a Grammy Awards party, and the two married ten years later. Lily has a brother named Max, and it is expected that they will one day surpass the remarkable achievements of their parents in the entertainment industry.

During an interview, Lily’s parents shared the meaning behind Max’s name. The couple revealed that Max was named after Gilbert’s grandfather, Max Dara. He also said, “Our son was born on his grandfather Max’s birthday! His middle name is after my grandfather Aaron.”

Who Are Lily Aster Gottfried’s Parents?

Entertainment practitioners Gilbert Gottfried and Dara Kravitz are Lily Aster Gottfried’s parents. They are well-known figures in the American entertainment world. Her mother, Dara, is famous for being a film producer and a radio podcaster, while her father, Gilbert, was a well-known American stand-up comedian.

They got married in 2007, and in that same year, they gave birth to Lily, and her brother Max followed in 2009. For over forty years, Gilbert Gottfried led a tremendous career as a stand-up comedian and voiceover artist. He was a “Saturday Night Live alum.

Gilbert died at 67 on Tuesday, April 12, 2022, according to the official announcement by his family. He was survived by his two children, Lily Aster Gottfried and Max Aaron Gottfried, and his wife, Dara Kravitz.

During the announcement of his death, the family gave a statement on the comedian’s social media page that reads:

“We are heartbroken to announce the passing of our beloved Gilbert Gottfried after a long illness. In addition to being the most iconic voice in comedy, Gilbert was a wonderful husband, brother, friend, and father to his two young children. Although today is a sad day for all of us, please keep laughing as loud as possible in Gilbert’s honor. Love, the Gottfried family.”

His friend and physicist, Glenn Schwartz, reported that the star comedian died from persistent ventricular tachycardia due to myotonic dystrophy type II.

Gilbert Gottfried’s Career as a Comedian

Gilbert is best known for his work in films like “Problem Child” and “A Million Ways to Die in the West.” But he has long been considered one of America’s most controversial comedians.

He is famous for his squinty-eyed delivery and raspy voice. He was a man who flinched from nothing and even made jokes about 9/11, which many felt was too soon after the tragedy.

However, Lily Aster Gottfried’s father has responded to those criticisms differently. According to Vulture, he once said: “When I make a joke about September 11 or the Japanese tsunami, what’s funny is that it shocks the audience. They are responding to the fact that it’s tragic, and you’re acknowledging it.”

Describing Gilbert’s work, a statement from his friend and podcast co-host Frank Santopadre read, “Gilbert’s brand of humor was bold, shocking and frequently offensive, but the man behind the jokes was anything but.

Those who loved him were fortunate enough to share his orbit. They knew a person who was sweet, sensitive, surprisingly shy, and filled with a childlike sense of playfulness and wonder. He’ll be dearly missed by family, friends, fans, and comedy lovers worldwide. To quote Gilbert himself, ‘Too soon!'”

Lily Aster Gottfried Shared a Special Relationship With Her Father

Much of Gilbert’s life was dedicated to making people laugh, and his children were the primary beneficiaries of his humor. On his career day, Gilbert once brought his entire family on an episode of “Celebrity Wife Swap” in 2013. In that episode, Lily Aster Gottfried remembered her father’s legendary role as Iago in the 1992 animated Disney film “Aladdin.”

Lily Aster Gottfried shared a special relationship with her dad, and she was a massive inspiration to him. She once offered her dad tremendous professional help, even as a kid. She was responsible for Gilbert joining the TBS Tournament of Laughs by helping him compose some hilarious skits. Lily even helped her father get on TikTok, showing him how to make waves on the platform.

Gilbert once said, “My daughter, she’s on TikTok. So, she got me on TikTok. I have no idea what it is. I’m like talking to somebody’s grandmother about TikTok, and she’ll say, ‘I want you to do this little dance step,’ which I can never do. So, I was already making stuff with her, and [the video] was like the next step.”

Lily Aster Gottfried was impacted by her dad’s death, but she had her family to rely on. His death inspired her to make a documentary short about his hidden talent in 2022.
