America’s working generation is set to retire many members over the next couple of years. As it stands, over eight million people have moved to a different state since 2022, and many are retirees looking for their forever homes.

According to the U.S. Census Bureau, Americans are moving between states at record numbers. There were more than 8.2 million interstate moves in just 2022. Companies and organizations have worked hard to monitor the movement and have tracked down the most popular destinations of the year in a new report.

The state has had its share of issues with property tax increases, insurance rises, and natural disasters, but retirees still think of the tropical paradise as a great retirement choice. A report issued by a moving company, MoveBuddha, shared that Central Florida has ranked as the top destination.

The Villages in Central Florida is considered to be the largest retirement community in the country and the world. The area also had the best move-in ratio, with 4.38 people moving in for every one person moving out.

A new trend in the social ladder has begun as the Baby Boomer generation begins to retire. The massive American population makes up just over 73 million people.

Thanks to the massive numbers of the Baby Boomer generation and their love for Florida, researchers have named their massive move the ‘Silver Tsunami.’ Although Florida has always been a favorite among retirees, the influx of new residents has increased like never before.

The new generation of seniors has proven with their recent actions that they aren’t necessarily moving where the housing prices are the cheapest. The national average home value is $347,716, but the average house in The Villages is about $407,528.

In a different state, another beachside town has gained popularity with the aging demographic, making the state one of the top three most popular places to move to in 2024. It’s called Myrtle Beach, and it is located in South Carolina.

South Carolina’s laid-back community and slow way of life make it super popular with seniors and retirees. In Myrtle Beach alone, over a fifth of the population is 65 or over, which is retirement age. As such it is safe to say that many residents of the area will be sporting gray hairs.

Aside from Myrtle Beach, there is another area known for its popularity: the stunning town of Asheville.
It is regrettably landlocked, but the city has a thriving art scene and expansive natural beauty. The town is also popular with young families who go out for adventure.

Unlike the cities in the Carolinas, The Villages in Florida is made up of 33 square miles, and every foundation laid was done meticulously with a grand plan in mind. Indeed, the founders of the town and the city planners intended to make it easily accessible and walkable so the community would attract the new aging population.

Moving to The Villages from a rainier place will definitely give residents a boost of morale as they settle into their new home and life.
