In early February, Elon Musk used X (previously known as Twitter) to offer legal aid to individuals who feel they were discriminated against by Disney or its subsidiaries. Caitlyn Jenner is the most recent person to claim publicly that Disney discriminated against her.
This new issue arises as Musk persists in his criticisms of diversity and Disney. Simultaneously, Jenner has been openly criticizing Disney CEO Bob Iger in recent months.

Upon noticing Musk’s offer to provide legal assistance to those wishing to sue Disney, Jenner promptly turned to X to present her situation. Jenner alleges that Hulu, a subsidiary of Disney, refused to include her in its reality show “The Kardashians.”
Jenner, having been part of nearly 20 seasons of the original E! show “Keeping Up with the Kardashians,” feels she was dismissed once the show was adapted to meet Disney’s standards.

Back in 2022, when it was announced that Hulu would air the new reality show “The Kardashians,” Jenner revealed her disappointment at not being included.
“I was there when this started from day one. I watched it grow. And doing the show for almost 20 seasons was one of the highlights of my life,” she tweeted at the time. “To be able to work with my family for all those years, connect with the fans, it was incredible. Happy that it continues for my family.”

After Jenner’s tweet to Musk, some quickly noted that her relationship with the Kardashians isn’t as strong as it once was.
Jenner herself recently stated that she no longer communicates with many of the Kardashians. “I’ve lost all relationship with them,” Jenner remarked in 2023. “I don’t talk to any of them anymore.” Some speculate that this may be the reason why she wasn’t invited to be on the show.

In late 2023, Jenner spoke to RadioTimes.com about why she wasn’t part of the new Kardashian reality show, despite being a consistent presence in the original series.
“I’ve never been asked to be on the show and I certainly don’t expect to be asked to be on the show,” she clarified. “So yeah, I’ve kind of moved on in my life from that perspective.”

In early 2024, Jenner used X to address Disney’s purported partisan mindset. Critics of Disney claim that individuals who are not sufficiently partisan, or “woke,” are terminated from their positions.
Jenner took a shot at Disney CEO Bob Iger, tweeting, “I must not be woke enough. Too bad… I remember when Bob Iger was a young, hard working, valet, carrying my bags, for me right after I won the Olympics.”

Jenner also insinuated that Iger and Disney aren’t as loyal to her as they should be, referencing the big audience that she brought in for her “20/20” special that followed her transitioning from a man to a woman.
“Disney dropping me was purely political,” she tweeted. “I wasn’t woke enough for them, and Bob had no sense of loyalty after I gave them highest rated 2 HOUR 20/20 special on ABC.”

Jenner contacting Musk coincides with Musk’s continued opposition to diversity and inclusion criteria. Musk’s proposal to assist individuals in legally challenging Disney followed receiving a purported list of inclusion guidelines Disney adheres to.
Musk posted these standards online and said they were “mandatory, institutionalized racism and sexism.”

Jenner’s request to Musk happened around the time when actress Gina Carano announced her lawsuit against Disney. Carano mentioned that X Corporation would financially support her legal action.
Carano was fired from “The Mandalorian” in 2021, evidently in response to her post comparing Republicans to Jewish people during the Holocaust. As a result, Carano says she is suing for wrongful termination.

Following Musk’s statement offering assistance to those considering legal action against Disney, he seemed to jest about purchasing Disney during a small indie movie premiere. This premiere featured a film starring Nicola Peltz, daughter of billionaire Nelson Peltz, who is also engaged in a dispute with Disney.
When asked why he was there, Musk joked, “I’m just here with friends… Thinking about what companies to acquire.”

While Jenner’s recent interaction with Musk on X has garnered attention, this isn’t the athlete’s initial encounter with the world’s wealthiest individual.
In 2022, Jenner reached out to Musk on social media to express her fear for his life. She believed that Musk was becoming “public enemy number one to some very, very bad people.”

Musk and Jenner’s tweets coincide with a surge in criticisms of Disney by certain conservatives in the U.S. These critics argue that Disney has become excessively “woke” and caters to liberal perspectives.
Not long ago, it seemed that the conflict between Disney and conservatives might subside, as Iger expressed a desire to “quiet the noise.” However, with Musk’s ongoing dispute with Disney, it seems unlikely that resolution will occur anytime soon.
