In a display of cross-state solidarity, South Dakota Governor Kristi Noem has pledged to personally deliver razor wire to Texas Governor Greg Abbott to fortify the southern U.S. border.

This offer comes amid Abbott’s ongoing battle with the federal government over border control measures. Noem voiced her support for Abbott’s use of razor wire and barriers along the Rio Grande, defending his actions against criticism from the Biden administration.

During an interview with Fox News, Governor Noem emphasized her belief in Governor Abbott’s approach, stating that Governor Abbott has done the exact right thing. Governor Noem, who has previously characterized the U.S.-Mexico border as a “warzone,” has been actively involved in supporting Texas’ efforts to curb migration.

Since 2021, she has dispatched dozens of South Dakota National Guard troops to assist Texas’ National Guard in addressing the border situation. Noem’s engagement reflects the alignment of several Republican governors in supporting Abbott’s border policies.

Expressing dissatisfaction with President Biden’s handling of the border situation, Noem stated, “Our ICE agents on the ground do not support what President Biden is doing.” She emphasized that Democrats nationwide fundamentally disagree with the Biden administration’s approach to the southern border.

In a critique of President Biden, Governor Noem argued, “He’s so out of touch. He’s remaking this country — we will be Europe within a year or two if we allow President Biden to continue this invasion of our country.” This sentiment reflects broader concerns among some Republicans about the perceived impact of current immigration policies on the nation’s identity and future trajectory.

Undeterred by a recent U.S. Supreme Court ruling allowing the federal government to remove razor wire along the border, Governor Abbott maintains that Texas has a constitutional right to self-defense. He contends that his state is acting within its authority, backed by state law, to secure the Texas border. Abbott’s resilience in the face of legal challenges demonstrates a commitment to what he sees as the defense of Texas’ interests.

The conflict has escalated to the point where Texas law enforcement has restricted federal Border Patrol agents from accessing parts of Shelby Park, a 47-acre area along the Rio Grande.

This area has witnessed a significant number of migrants crossing into U.S. territory. The Department of Homeland Security has responded with a demand for access, leading to a further standoff between the state and federal authorities.

Governor Noem expressed her belief that federal agents sent to Texas are uncomfortable with the situation, stating, “We have people every single day in this country that are committing crimes and violating our laws, and the president of the United States is allowing them to do that.”

She criticized President Biden’s policies, asserting that they are contributing to what she perceives as the “inhumanity” destroying America. Her call to stand together spotlights the urgency felt by some state leaders to safeguard what they see as the future of the nation amidst the ongoing border challenges
