Over the past week, multiple videos of Rep. Jasmine Crockett (D-Texas) and controversial Republican firebrand Marjorie Taylor Green going at each other in the House surfaced. The two got into a pretty heated argument during a House Committee meeting.

On Thursday, May 16, 2024, the House held a routine meeting to discuss Attorney General Merrick Garland’s faith in the House. However, what started as a routine meeting ended with the two exchanging harsh comments about each other.

According to the circulating videos, far-right rep Marjorie Taylor Greene attacked Crockett’s physical appearance first. While speaking at the meeting, Greene said Crockett’s “fake eyelashes” seemed to distract her from reading and understanding the previous week’s meeting resolution.

Greene’s comment about Crockett’s body sparked a heated exchange between the two. In response to the MAGA supporter’s comment, Crockett asked the house to “clarify what attacking a member’s physical appearance means.” To drive her point home, she asked if calling someone “bleach-blonde, bad-built, butch body” was okay.

The congresswomen’s heated exchange quickly went viral on X, and many supported Crockett’s witty response. “A proper use of alliteration,” a user wrote on X, referring to the Dallas Rep’s reaction. Many supported the Dallas rep, criticizing Greene for her controversial comment.

Following the heated exchange with Greene, Crockett rode on the viral moment, announcing a “Crockett Clapback Collection.” Furthermore, she filed to trademark her viral “B6” phrase. However, X users have condemned the move, mocking her merch line based on her feud with Greene.

On Friday, May 17, Crockett shared a post on X announcing the merchandise. The posted T-shirts featured texts of the insults she hurled at Greene during their confrontation at the congressional hearing. Eagle-eyed users quickly pointed at Crockett’s misspelled signature at the bottom of the shirt.

In addition to regular X users, renowned former NCAA swimmer Riley Gaines also took a swipe at the congresswoman. “I’d start by spelling your last name correctly,” Gaines, who is famous for her outspoken criticism of trans athlete inclusion in female sports, said.

X users pointed at the spelling of the Dallas Rep’s signature at the bottom of the shirt. The signature was spelled “crockrtt” instead of Crockett. Following her post about the merch, a user asked “Crockrtt” is. “Order a shirt, and you will see,” the Dallas rep replied.

Also, other users condemned Crockett, claiming she was “milking” the situation and chasing “clout.” “What an embarrassment for Texas,” conservative musician “Five Times August” wrote on X, blasting the shirt. “Leaders like you prove we have none,” he added.

Speaking about the misspelled signature, the musician wrote, “The shirt says ‘Crockrtt.’” He added that the rep was hurrying to ride on the vitality of the heated exchange with Greene, and she couldn’t spell her name right. “Disgraceful,” he said.

Similarly, renowned conservative personality Kimberly Klacik slammed Crockett’s merchandise line, calling it a “branding mistake.” Another critic, journalist Brad Polumbo, also commented on the post. “You’re not fit for office,” he wrote, “Resign.”

Despite the backlash from supporters and critics, the Dallas Rep has yet to clarify the error on the T-shirt. Her team has also not commented on the incident, which Crockett termed racist.
