Vice President Kamala Harris recently made her twelfth visit to North Carolina, where she celebrated with North Carolina citizens in a new Green Energy project. In a jovial tone, she made mention of the Biden administration’s commitment to green energy, joking about the “incredible investment” of roughly a trillion dollars in taking care of the climate crisis.
“Since taking office, the president and I have made an incredible investment, the largest investment ever to take on the climate crisis, roughly a trillion dollars with a T,” she said with a laugh.
“I had to,” she added with a grin, appearing to celebrate her audacity at the podium.
She spoke with a lot of passion about how she wanted to empower local communities after which she announced a huge effort to award $20 billion in grants for underserved community banks. She mentioned how important it was to channel funds directly to community leaders rather than being centralized in Washington, D.C.

“I really appreciate the fact that the spirit behind the announcements we are making today really are about our community leaders, and the love, the passion, the commitment, the drive, the ambition, that our community leaders have, knowing that what we see and understand who the community is everyone will benefit,” she added.
This grant’s main purpose is to support various projects, such as installing solar panels in churches to generate clean energy. Harris painted a picture of the project’s impact, picturing houses of worship becoming energy hubs that will benefit entire neighborhoods. This initiative is part of the efforts to make energy much more efficient and reduce monthly utility bills for residents, including those in North Carolina.

“Imagine a house of worship that can now get a zero interest loan, so they can install solar panels to generate clean energy through electricity for the entire neighborhood,” she said. “When we’re talking about real people with their dreams and aspirations and responsibilities and obligations, this is a big deal,”
As Harris outlined the benefits of this project, the audience began to applaud. She couldn’t help but add a little bit of humor, playfully acknowledging the audience’s applause with a cheerful “You’re welcome!” She also noted the importance of these kinds of investments, particularly for communities that have cases of environmental injustices.
Senator Chris Van Hollen celebrated with North Carolina residents and described the move as a step towards environmental justice. He also said that he could see this as a way to help properly transition to a cleaner energy economy. His optimism was in agreement with Harris’ vision of using investments like these to make communities better as well as address some environmental issues.
