Curiosity about Lamar Bryant’s life was set in stone long before birth. This is because he is the son of Carolyn and Rob Bryant, two people linked to the murder of a black boy, Emmett Till.
Given their roles, Carolyn and Rob are not the most beloved family in the U.S., so most of their lives are private. Lamar Bryant’s precise location is currently unknown, even though several people have attempted to trace it multiple times.
Here is all we know about him and his family or what is left.
Who Is Lamar Bryant?
Lamar Bryant is the second son of Roy Bryant and his wife, Carolyn Bryant. He is the younger brother of Roy Bryant Jr., and they both lived far from the limelight.
They may have enjoyed normal lives following what their parents did. However, there is not a lot of evidence to support that speculation. Lamar and his brother were raised in total seclusion. The schools they attended growing up were never listed, and it is unknown if they graduated college.
Lamar is still alive and is now in his 70s. According to different sources, he resides with his mother, Carolyn, who receives hospice care in Kentucky. One source also claimed that Lamar’s mother, Carolyn, is currently battling cancer in her late 80s and receiving end-of-life care. Her home is in an apartment community, and she is on oxygen.
Lamar’s mother is treated as an anonymous old lady living out the rest of her tumultuous life. Not much is known about the kind of life Lamar Bryant lived growing up, but he is certainly alive.
What Happened to Lamar Bryant’s Brother?
Lamar Bryant’s brother is Roy Bryant Jr.
Though not much is known about their lives, we do know that they were born two years apart. Roy Jr. is believed to have entered this world in late 1951 in Mississippi, USA. Unfortunately, not much else is known about his childhood or even his adult life.
There is no news of him getting married and having kids, either. Because of how scarce information on him is, some believe that Roy has passed away, but there has been no confirmation from his family.
What Happened Between Emmett Till and Carolyn Bryant?
The story of Emmett Till happened decades ago, but people have not forgotten it. Carolyn is still hated in many places, and many still canvas for Till’s justice.
Carolyn Bryant is best known as the white woman who accused Till of sexually harassing her, which led to his lynching in Mississippi about seven decades ago. Before Till’s death, Carolyn, her husband, and their two kids lived behind their grocery store.
The small store, Bryant’s Grocery & Meat Market, sold goods to Black sharecroppers and their children. Till and his cousins had gone to the store after a busy afternoon picking cotton on August 24, 1955. They entered the store one or two at a time to purchase drinks and treats.
Emmett Till bought 2 cents worth of bubblegum. However, what came next remains highly disputed. Some sources claim that Carolyn stormed out of the store, and one of the children stated that she had a pistol.
The thought made them scatter. One source reported: “Carolyn told her sister-in-law, Juanita, who was in the store with their children, what had happened. They agreed not to tell their husbands, who were out of town on a trucking job.”
When Roy and Juanita’s husband, J.W., returned, one of the kids who witnessed the scene told them what happened. It was still dark, and the law defined the separation between blacks and whites. So Roy and his half-brother decided Emmett had to be disciplined.
The Aftermath of Lynching Emmett Till
When Roy and J.W. caught up with Till, they ended up murdering him in a lynching that has remained fresh in the minds of many.
The pair even made an interview about how they did it, selling the information for a hefty sum to a journalist who wrote about it. Unfortunately, the two men became stigmatized for the rest of their lives.
Even Carolyn eventually left Roy and remarried two more times but without kids. Today, Carolyn Bryant’s involvement in the lynching remains disputed.
However, her accusation against Till continues to spark outrage and will always be considered significant in the civil rights movement. Thankfully racism has drastically reduced, and stars like Selena Gomez and Taylor Swift use their platform to fight for equality for all.
