The White House has pushed back against criticism from top Republicans regarding President Joe Biden’s proclamation in support of transgender individuals, which coincided with Easter, asserting that the attacks are based on misinformation and aimed at dividing the nation.
White House spokesperson Andrew Bates emphasized Biden’s commitment to unity and upholding the dignity of every American, stating that the president will not exploit his faith for political gain.
Similarly, White House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre condemned the “cruel, hateful, and dishonest rhetoric” surrounding Biden’s proclamation and expressed disappointment at the misinformation circulating.
Biden’s proclamation honoring transgender Americans on the Transgender Day of Visibility, observed annually on March 31, coincided with Easter this year. Despite issuing statements commemorating both occasions, conservatives seized on the timing to criticize Biden’s actions.

House Speaker Mike Johnson and former President Donald Trump, among others, denounced Biden’s proclamation as “blasphemous” and contrary to the central tenets of Easter. Johnson accused Biden of betraying the essence of Easter, while Trump’s reelection campaign labeled the proclamation as insulting to Christians.
In response to the backlash, Biden’s allies and supporters defended the president’s actions, characterizing the criticism as divisive and contrary to Christian values. Senator Raphael Warnock, a pastor from Georgia, condemned the attacks on Biden, asserting that they undermine the principles of the Christian faith.

However, the American Egg Board, which partners with the White House for the event, clarified that federal guidelines, not administration policy, dictate the contest rules, including restrictions on religious symbols to comply with regulations against favoritism toward any religion.

The American Egg Board emphasized its longstanding partnership with the White House for the Easter Egg Roll and reiterated that the contest guidelines have remained consistent across administrations. The organization highlighted its commitment to promoting the event by federal regulations.
