White Christian Nationalists in Kentucky are, Like Trump, Harnessing Social Media

Kentucky is a predominantly Republican state, with many of its citizens being white Christian nationalists.

This majority is not entirely receptive to the federal government permitting gender fluidity in public schools. This discussion comes to the fore after a recent drama revolving around Brad and Stacy Briscoe unraveled.

It so happens that the Briscoes are white Christian Nationalists. Their agitation is for removing the District Superintendent and counselor at their daughter’s school.

Their reason? They claim that the sad counselor groomed their teenage daughter. However, the reality of the situation is not that direct. Young Miss Briscoe told her parents about a romantic relationship that she had been having with a female classmate.

It was a shock for Mr. and Mrs Briscoe that the relationship had been going on since the fall of 2022. Also, they did not appreciate their daughter’s school counselor encouraging her to seek legal advice about emancipation.

However, the Briscoe parents would have none of that ruse, as their Christian faith does not permit it. So, Mr. and Mrs. Briscoe made their displeasure known by filing a complaint against the district superintendent and the counselor.

In addition, the Briscoes mobilised hundreds of parents to mob a board meeting of the school. The couple filed their complaint earlier in the year while the school board meeting was held last week. A local preacher, Randy Adams, made a flood of Christian parents attend last week’s school board meeting.

Mr and Mrs Briscoe made an official complaint around February 2023. They claim not to have any issues with their child’s sexual identity. Instead, they do not appreciate the school counselor’s effort to recommend legal advice to their daughter without their consent.

The Briscoes also claim to have made a complaint with Sheila Mitchell, the superintendent of Anderson County Schools. However, they are unsatisfied with the superintendent’s response to the complaint, as the school still employs the counselor.

In a bid to defend herself, Superintendent Mitchell said she investigated the counselor in question. However, the Briscoes refuse to sign a press release that allows her to make details of the incident and her investigation into the matter public.

Preacher Randy Adams of Ballard Baptist Church in Lawrenceburg gave new vigor to the case last month. He invited Mr Briscoe to his church’s pulpit to share their young daughter’s story.

After the religious meeting, Adams took to Facebook and encouraged parents in the County to attend the school’s next board meeting en masse.

On November 13, 2023,  school board members were surprised to find the meeting venue crawling in a crowd of parents. That was the largest attendance they have ever recorded. The meeting eventually moved to a more spacious location.

Parents’ massive response to a local preacher’s social media prompt indicates how great a social media movement can be. Trump exploited it with his January 6 tweet, and others followed suit.
