While addressing a House committee in March 2020, Dr. Robert Kadlec reiterated his role and responsibilities.
As assistant secretary for preparedness and response at the Department of Health and Human Services, Kadlec offered a lengthy statement. In his address to the lawmakers, he spoke on the “four principal functions” of his role.
However, none of those functions involved downplaying a theory, especially without scientific evidence. In 2020, there was a theory that COVID-19 emerged from a laboratory in the Wuhan Institute of Virology. Unfortunately, Kadlec discredited the theory without scientific evidence.
However, he says he did so by assisting Dr. Anthony Fauci, America’s former top infectious diseases adviser, in his effort to suppress the lab leak theory. Chinese military scientist Dr. Zhou Yusen reportedly tested on live animals at the Wuhan Institute of Virology in 2019. He also filed a patent for a COVID-19 vaccine in February 2020, a month after the COVID outbreak in Wuhan.

However, three months later, Zhou died when he allegedly fell from the roof of the Wuhan Institute. When asked about Zhou’s death, Kadlec says it seemed as though the Chinese government “censored” him.
However, Zhou’s quick turnaround of a COVID vaccine sparked concerns. Many believed the Wuhan Institute secretly worked on a vaccine months before Beijing admitted to the virus outbreak.
In addition, US vaccine developers told government investigators it would have taken at least three months to generate the data cited in Zhou’s patent. They suggested Zhou was working on it at least two months before Chinese officials announced the new virus.

Consequently, House Republicans concluded in an April report that Zhou’s research may have led to an accidental lab leak. However, Dr. Anthony Fauci, former head of the National Institute for Allergy and Infectious Diseases, repeatedly denied the claim.
In an interview, Kadlec says helping Fauci is a decision that keeps him up at night. “I wake up at usually about 2 or 3 a.m. and think about it honestly because it’s something that we all played a role in,” Kadlec told Sky News.
In February 2020, Sen. Tom Cotton (R-AR) questioned the Chinese government’s “duplicity and dishonesty.” Although Cotton stated no evidence to support his claim, media houses accused him of spreading “a conspiracy theory.”

Similarly, anyone who said COVID-19 emerged from Wuhan risked being labeled a conspiracy theorist by legacy media and “fact-checkers.” However, the FBI and other agencies now believe COVID-19 probably arose from the Wuhan lab.
In addition, reports suggest that the CIA admitted Fauci to analyze the virus’s origins secretly. However, a senior-level CIA whistleblower claims the agency attempted to bribe analysts assessing the virus’s origin.
Despite the allegations levied against him, Fauci has yet to respond publicly. However, reports suggest the former top infectious diseases adviser finally agreed to testify under oath before Congress. When asked why he chose to speak now, Kadlec said he feels “like it is an obligation.”
He added that it is not to “get sympathy or forgiveness, but to say factually, here’s what happened.” However, neither Kadlec’s claims nor Fauci’s machinations prove COVID came from the Wuhan lab.
