It all started when an interesting report surfaced about Christian Ziegler, Moms for Liberty co-founder Bridget Ziegler’s husband. According to the report, he is under investigation in Sarasota, FL, following a rape allegation.
This was news for many, especially those aware of the modus operandi of Moms for Liberty. The group is famous for implying, many times outright falsely accusing everyone of being sexual predators.
This is why it shocked many that the co-founder’s husband is under scrutiny for a crime as heinous as rape. And his wife may have been complicit.
According to details dug up by local reporters, the alleged victim told cops “that she and both Zieglers had been involved in a three-year consensual three-way sexual relationship.” The report claims that she had been alone with Christian Ziegler, also the chair of the Florida GOP, the night of the alleged rape.
Conservatives seemingly get away with things like this. However, some believe these revelations may have political consequences for the Zieglers. It does not help matters that their favorite supporter, Gov. Ron DeSantis, is distancing himself from them as speedily as he can.
DeSantis’s support of Moms for Liberty is one of the reasons they were able to rise to national prominence. However, he didn’t stutter when asked about the allegations. He demanded that Ziegler resign, saying, “He’s innocent till proven guilty, but we just can’t have a party chair under that type of scrutiny.”

DeSantis is not the only one who feels this way. The Republican Party of Sarasota said in a statement that they were “shocked and disappointed” by the allegations. Moms for Liberty claims to “stand with” Bridget Ziegler.
However, they had to lock replies on X and publish a statement emphasizing that “she stepped back from the organization’s board in 2021” even though she remains on the group’s advisory board.
Meanwhile, Christian Ziegler is digging his heels in. On Saturday, he reportedly emailed party members rejecting calls for his resignation. He wrote: “We have a country to save, and I am not going to let false allegations of a crime put that mission on the bench as I wait for this process to wrap up.”

Ziegler also suggested that he is a victim of a liberal conspiracy, claiming, “There are leaks in this process who are feeding the press selective information to generate narratives with.”
For some reason, he believes he can weather the political storm. Even if DeSantis virtually made his support for Moms for Liberty a part of his campaign, he has dropped them like something hot.
How this will play out is still unknown. However, many don’t see the Zieglers going scot-free.
