Republican presidential candidate and Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis criticized President Biden and New York City for the decision to remove students from their Brooklyn school in favor of nearly 2,000 illegal immigrants. DeSantis argued that the move was indicative of prioritizing illegal immigrants over American citizens.
DeSantis strongly condemned the city’s choice to relocate migrants from a tent shelter at Floyd Bennett Field to James Madison High School, forcing students to transition to remote learning.
In a video posted on his X account, DeSantis expressed his disapproval, stating, “That’s Joe Biden’s America in a nutshell … it’s disgraceful.” The governor’s remarks responded to a reporter’s question about the situation at the New York City school.
New York City Mayor Eric Adams’ office explained that the relocation of approximately 1,900 migrants from the tent shelter was prompted by safety concerns related to incoming storms and potential high winds.

Adams emphasized that the decision was made out of an “overabundance of caution,” as the New York Daily News reported. Additionally, he stated on X that the illegal immigrants would be moved to the school.
“I think it’s disgraceful, just think about it … you’re a parent in Brooklyn … you probably got a lot of single moms who are the breadwinners, so they got to work during the day, your kids are supposed to go to school, and then someone tells you, ‘Sorry, your kids have to stay home.'”

“Why? Was there some type of real significant storm or some emergency … why are they having to stay home?” DeSantis asked. “They’re having to stay home because the city government is commandeering the school to house illegal aliens.”
“You talk about outing Americans last; you’re depriving these kids of in-person education to be able to house people that don’t have a right to be here, to begin with.”
Governor DeSantis expressed his belief that the New Yorkers’ perspectives on immigration are evolving. He asserted a growing consensus in the country, even among typically liberal voters in some regions of New York City, who now say, “This can’t go on like this.”

DeSantis highlighted concerns about schools being overtaken, hospitals being overwhelmed, and people entering the country without proper identification or background checks.
DeSantis labeled the situation as “probably Biden’s biggest failure,” attributing it to the President’s level of control and decision-making. He asserted that President Biden could address and halt the issue but opted not to.
