Famous Conservative influencer Rob Smith called fellow Republicans “soulless dead-eyed white supremacists” in a recent interview, much to everyone’s surprise. This statement comes not long after he shared a video on X (formerly Twitter), which quickly went viral.
In the video, Smith is surrounded by alleged “white supremacists” at an event Republicans hosted for National Renewal on December 17. Not long after, Smith sat with CNN’s Abby Phillip to recount his ordeal at the event. According to the prominent influencer, he was a victim of a “hate crime” at the Turning Points USA event.
He also said that he felt the encounter could have cost him his life for several reasons. “I’m looking at soulless, dead-eyed white supremacists that, by the way, I felt that these people could have bashed my brains in had they gotten the chance,” Smith said.
“I deal with these people in real life. And I know for a fact where they’re coming from. I know that a lot of these people have infiltrated these conservative organizations from top to bottom,” he continued.

In addition, Smith claimed that these “white supremacists” said the “N-word” during the event. Smith felt offended as a black man and did not like the turn of events. According to him, he only attended this event because “I saw that a lot of other conservative influencers would be there.”
However, Smith chose not to defend himself from the attacks he faced. He was uncomfortable and decided to de-escalate the situation using humor. He said, “I am looking in the eyes of people that were actual neo-Nazis and actual white supremacists.”

Smith continued, “There were about 20 to 25 of these people, and that is what you do not see on camera. So, I had a choice to de-escalate the situation with humor, which is what I did.” This is because he believed it was safer this way and would cause less damage.
After his video went viral, most people believed these “white supremacists” were supporters of Donald Trump. However, Smith emphasized that this wasn’t true. He claims that he did not think the hate was among supporters of Trump but just people with their own opinions.

Smith also noted that coming out as a conservative while simultaneously being a Republican has not been easy for him. He believes it is more challenging than coming out as a gay man.
In a previous interview with Newsweek in 2018, he said, “Honestly, coming out as conservative has been more of an earth-shattering, life-altering move for me, personally, than coming out as gay was.”
“I came out [as gay] to my family and friends, but coming out as conservative has been a very public thing. For me, this process has been more difficult to navigate than the process of coming out as gay,” he continued. However, Smith remains resilient in his path. He is firm on his beliefs and remains a conservative and Republican at the same time.
