As the world prepared for the festivities, Santa came early for a Massachusetts woman, Amanda Gofferman. During the December 15, 2023 draw, Goffermann won $25,000 per year for life in the multi-state Lucky for Life game. Gofferman, a resident of Saugus, struck gold when the first five numbers on her ticket matched those selected at the lottery.
Consequently, Gofferman can now live more comfortably. She bought her winning ticket for $2 at Lowell Street Market in Peabody. However, before winning big at the multi-state lottery, she had lost a couple of times. According to what Gofferman told the Massachusetts Lottery, she had played random numbers for approximately two years.
Upon finding out her ticket numbers matched those selected, Goffermann collected her prize. However, she opted for the payment of $390,000 (pre-taxes) on Dec.18, 2023, at the Massachusetts State Lottery headquarters in Dorchester.
According to reports, lottery winners can choose between $25,000 yearly or a one-time payment of $390,000. However, most usually opt for the latter. Several things influence winners to select a one-time lump sum payment over the $25,000 yearly. Most winners generally consider their age before making the decision.

Taking a yearly payment makes little sense for those already past retirement age. Older winners would rather have a lump sum to help with payments such as their mortgage or debt. Meanwhile, other people want all their money at once because tomorrow isn’t promised.
When speaking about her decision to take the one-time payment, Goffermann admitted there were multiple reasons behind her choice. According to the Massachusetts Lottery, Goffermann revealed she intends to use her winnings to purchase real estate and travel.
Lucky for Life drawings occur every night of the week, seven days a week. According to the state lottery website, Lucky for Life players can win prizes ranging from $3 to a lifetime of cash. Tickets also cost $2 each. However, to win the game’s top prize, players must match all five winning numbers plus one “Lucky Ball” number.

Those who match all five winning numbers but not the “Lucky Ball” win $25,000 a year for life. Consequently, residents from over 22 American states participate in the weekly Lucky for Life lottery game. When it comes to Lottery games such as the Lucky for Life draw, typically, the odds are against the player.
According to reports, the odds of winning the grand prize of $1,000 a day are 1 in 30,821,472. However, the odds of winning the second prize of $25,000 a year for life are 1 in 1,813,028. Consequently, most players win the $25,000 yearly prize.

Due to the high winning percentage, Lucky for Life has become so popular. Also, the game is branching out in many states across the U.S. Consequently, supermarkets, convenience stores, and gas stations now sell the game tickets.
In addition, small stores in many of the States’ largest airports sell Lucky for Life tickets. Aside from the walk-in stores, players can buy tickets online in several states nationwide.
