Social media has doubled down on the criticism of President Joe Biden. This recent backlash comes in the wake of Biden’s sudden visits to a witness house. The action has generated controversy among conservative observers.
On Sunday night, May 26, 2024, President Biden made a personal visit to the home of Hallie Biden. Hallie is the ex-wife of the president’s late son, Beau Biden. Beau and Hallie got married in 2002 and stayed married until 2015, when Beau died.
Hallie started dating Beau’s brother Hunter Biden in 2016 till the relationship ended in 2019. At the time Hunter and Hallie began their relationship, Hunter was processing his divorce from his ex wife Kathleen Buhle.
Hunter Biden’s Delaware gun case is expected to start on Monday, June 3, with Hallie as a witness in the trial. Consequently, the evening visit seems rather suspicious causing social media users to question the motive behind the surprise visit.

However, in a statement released by the White House, Biden visited Hallie because of the upcoming anniversary of Beau’s death. Beau Biden passed away on May 30, 2015, make this month the ninth anniversary since his passing.
When questioned if Biden had brought up Hunter’s Trial undoing the visit, Andrew Bates, the White House spokesman, answered. Bates told the press that nothing of the sort ever occurred, confirming that the visit was personal. Bates said that Biden came to check in on Hallie as the anniversary of Beau’s passing was right around the corner.
However, the press statement or interview did not deter the president’s critics or help with criticism about the visit. Taking to X, a conservative lawyer, Phil Holloway, implying sarcastically, wrote, “What’s a little witness tampering between ex-in-laws?”

Miranda Devine, a New York Post columnist, tweeted asking for the legal word for a visit as such. Devine continues to highlight that Biden visited Hallie some days before her testimony at Hunter’s trial.
Another user commented on the issue, saying a father would do anything for his child. John Kass, a columnist, called the Bidens a crime family in a tweet. He additionally accused them of using the office of the president to influence witnesses.
The June 3 trial, centers on gun crime allegations against Hunter. The alleged offense was committed during the time Hallie and Hunter were in a relationship, making her a witness. Hallie is one of twelve witnesses who are scheduled to give testimony during the opening trial.

Hunter has another pending trial in September 2024 in Los Angeles, with the trial focusing on tax charges. Hunter was to take a plea deal in August 2023. However, the deal fell through after the prosecution raised the possibility of the deal granting him future immunity. He has pleaded not guilty to the accusations.
In the trial, special counsel David Weiss claims that Hunter unlawfully acquired a gun while lying about his addiction on the purchase form. The gun was a Colt Cobra 388PL revolver, which stayed in possession for a total of 11 days. Hunter has been extremely candid about his drug struggles, admitting to using crack cocaine during that period.
