Less than 24 hours after gracing the Met Gala red carpet, the Chicago Sky rookie was back in the Windy City, where she dominated the New York Liberty on the court. WNBA player Angel Reese marked her 22nd birthday in style by walking the Met Gala steps, not something that anyone can just claim to be doing.
However, her decision to attend the Met Gala some days before a game seems to have upset many people. Those who felt she should be concentrating on her game heavily criticized her appearance at fashion’s biggest night.
She recently took the opportunity to answer them. On Wednesday, May 8, Reese replied to critics who condemned her for attending the Met Gala a day before the Sky’s game versus the New York Liberty.
She issued her statement at the Wintrust Arena during a press conference for the team’s media day. The basketball star noted that no one should dictate what she can’t do, as she has proven she could do it all.

Then, Reese calmed her detractors on the court. She demonstrated her dynamic demeanor, which LSU supporters have grown accustomed to. Additionally, she put on a great performance in the team’s 101-53 victory over the Liberty.
Coach Teresa Weatherspoon’s Sky team started strong, with a commanding 13-0 lead against New York. Reese’s hustle and perseverance were evident throughout the game, even though guards Dana Evans and Marina Mabrey carried most of the offensive load.

It was evident how committed Reese was to the game. She took advantage of opportunities close to the hoop to secure her place on the scoresheet. Her unwavering work ethic paid off as she finished with 13 points on 6 of 10 shots, five rebounds, two steals, and an assist.
Despite doubts online, the LSU player’s presence in the WNBA starkly contrasted expectations. Reese continued by saying that developing layers is crucial for women and the WNBA’s expansion.
“Knowing that I’m not a one-dimensional person inspires confidence in a great number of individuals,” Reese said. “You don’t have to limit women to one dimension.” She added, “They don’t need to take any action. That’s probably what’s causing the game to grow.”

On May 6, at the Met Gala, Reese donned a custom dress from 16 Arlington by Marco Capaldo. The sparkling mint-green gown had a sheer floor-length skirt with feather accents at the waist and a halter top with a deep V-neck. She pulled her long hair back into a chic ponytail.
The Chicago Sky star wrote on X, “Training camp in the morning, Met Gala at night, preseason game tomorrow,” to celebrate her occasion. For Angel Reese, it was just another day as a star. On and off the court, Reese says she can do it all.
