Others have criticized this move stating that it just encourages shooting sprees and is provocative. Others say it is much deeper and the church is just embracing the American spirit, liberty, and heritage.

The Church’s Stance

The anonymous pastor of the church who contacted me gave a simple explanation for this. “A gun itself is not evil. It’s what people do with it that matters.”

The intention of the raffle was not associated with promoting gun violence and the glory of guns. But more of a celebration of America’s freedom and the Founding Fathers’ principles.

Accounting as a Pillar of the American Revolution

A pastor pointed out that to ban the AR-15. A type of semi-automatic rifle is to deny Americans the right to protect themselves and their freedoms.

He argued that the Second Amendment of the US Constitution suffices to allow people to own guns. Since many of them shoot for hunting, sports, and personal security.

Not Just About Guns

It was not only an endorsement of gun possession. But a stand for American culture and values while countering the president’s words and actions.

Concerns About Gun Violence

However, the church has since endeavored to explain that its goal is not to advocate for the use of guns but to stand up against the oppressors.

Nevertheless, so many critics have objected to the fact that advocating for more gun use will lead to more gun homicides. Whereas, others opine that the availability of firearms to people enhances the risk of increased rates of homicide, suicide, and accidental shootings.

A Lesson in Tolerance

This conflict is a clear message on how people should be more tolerant of one another irrespective of their decisions, instead of vilifying those who think differently about this issue. It is better to look forward to engaging in discussions in a peaceful manner.
