Tech mogul Elon Musk shared his increasing criticism of illegal immigration on X. He highlighted the risk it poses to essential services in the U.S. Musk’s comments came in response to a report by Fox News’ Bill Melugin.
The report mentioned Sen. Laphonza Butler, D-Calif., seeking federal funds to expand a migrant shelter in San Diego. Butler warned that without additional funds, the bankrupt shelter would have to release 800 to 1,000 migrants daily.
“Dams are bursting all over the country,” Musk wrote in a post that quoted Melugin. “America is only 4% of Earth’s population. If only 1% of the rest of Earth moves here, that would crush all essential services.”
“I am ringing the alarm bell, because the flood of illegals is crushing the country!” the billionaire explained.

A Fox News analysis found that nearly 7.3 million migrants have illegally crossed the southwest border during President Biden’s administration. This number surpasses the population of 36 individual states in the United States.
The Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) report for fiscal year 2023 indicates a significant increase in the number of illegal immigrants on the non-detained docket. In fiscal year 2021, there were 3.7 million individuals on the docket.
By fiscal year 2022, this number rose to nearly 4.8 million. By fiscal year 2023, it further increased to nearly 6.2 million. Musk, a legal immigrant from South Africa to the U.S., has intensified his criticism of Biden’s border policies in recent months.
POLL—Should the U.S. Government Create a Path to Citizenship for Undocumented Immigrants?
In September, he visited the U.S.-Mexico border at Eagle Pass, Texas, where he stated that the “situation is beyond insane and growing fast.” On Monday, the CEO of Tesla and SpaceX reiterated his belief that Democrats have permitted illegal migrants to enter the country with the hope that they will eventually vote for Democratic candidates.
He also suggested that Democrats are hesitant to deport individuals who commit crimes, as doing so would mean losing potential voters. Musk wrote, “Dems won’t deport, because every illegal is a highly likely vote at some point. That simple incentive explains what seems to be insane behavior.”
His remarks surfaced amid a heated online discourse on immigration, sparked by the case of Diego Ibarra, the brother of murder suspect Jose Antonio Ibarra, who was not deported despite entering the country illegally. Diego Ibarra had been arrested multiple times and was found with a fake green card.

Jose Antonio Ibarra, charged with crimes such as malice murder, murder, and kidnapping, also entered the U.S. illegally and had previously been arrested in New York City. He faced charges for acting in a manner to injure a child less than 17 and a motor vehicle license violation. Both brothers are from Venezuela.
Musk expressed his frustration on X, stating, “It has become so brazen that a gang of illegals can beat up police officers on camera in Times Square, get out of jail for free, and still not get deported!”
