Migration is not an easy feat. And the odds are stacked against you when you’re doing it illegally, as many migrants are.

According to U.S. Border Patrol Chief Jason Owens, a group of “armed bandits” near the U.S. southern border attempted to rob migrants crossing illegally.

Owens posted images of the group of migrants in Chula Vista, California. They were attempting to cross the border on Sunday, only to find themselves in the hands of armed robbers.

“USBP surveillance technology near Chula Vista, CA captured these images of armed bandits robbing several groups as they attempted to enter the country illegally,” Owens said in the post. “Yet another example of the dangers these criminals & smugglers pose to the public, the migrants, and our agents.”

Migrant encounters in the San Diego area, which encompasses Chula Vista, fell in January from November to December of 2023, according to Customs and Border Protection data.

Last week, the San Diego sector made over 7,500 apprehensions, according to Chief Patrol Agent Patrol Agent Patricia McGurk-Daniel. The migrants they apprehended came from up to 75 different countries,

According to a White House official, President Joe Biden is headed to the border today. He is going to Brownsville, Texas,  where he will meet with Border Patrol agents, law enforcement officials, and local leaders to discuss border security issues.

Whether by accident or design, his visit coincides with former President Donald Trump’s border tour. So, analysts are looking forward to a politically charged day. This trip will mark Biden’s second visit to the southern border during his presidency, against record migration levels.

One that has become a significant challenge for his administration. The president has recently adopted a tougher stance on border issues. He has directly blamed congressional Republicans for blocking crucial border legislation, signaling a major political shift.

“Every day between now and November, the American people are going to know that the only reason the border is not secure is Donald Trump and his MAGA Republican friends,” Biden said.

Meanwhile, Trump campaign’s national press secretary Karoline Leavitt thinks Biden’s upcoming visit is a “last-minute, insincere attempt.” Like many other citizens, she also accuses him of being responsible for the immigration crisis.

While in Texas, Biden will discuss “the urgent need” to pass the stalled border security legislation, seeking to rally support for comprehensive security measures. With legislation blocked, Biden is considering executive actions to manage the border crisis.

The move mirrors some of the policies previously endorsed by Trump but with potential backlash from progressives. Will Biden get away with it if it comes to that?
