Fans of the Disney+ series “Loki” have praised Owen Wilson for his fantastic performance in the first season as they eagerly await a sequel.
The Disney+ sci-fi series “Loki” premiered with a lot of expectations on its shoulders. The limited series was another in a long list of Marvel Cinematic series that aired in 2021. Following the huge success of “Wandavision,” “Loki” was a continuation of Disney+’s wonderful projects, and it didn’t disappoint.
The series set after the events of “Avengers: Endgame” tells the story of Thor’s brother and the mischief god Loki (Tom Hiddleston) as he finds himself with the Time Variants Authority TVA. The TVA, a mighty but bureaucratic organization, makes it its duty to police and ensure people stay within their timelines.
However, Loki broke those rules when he stole the Tesseract, which gave him time travel powers. “Loki” is another wonderful addition to the MCU Universe that offers all the quirky humor and action expected of a story revolving around the god of mischief. The series also explored questions about existence and free will.
“Loki” received huge applause for its storyline and great production. The ensemble cast of Tom Hiddleston, Owen Wilson, and Gugu Mbatha–Ra also carried the series on their back due to their fantastic performances. However, Owen Wilson shone the brightest in his first appearance in the Marvel Universe.
Owen Wilson’s Character in Loki
In “Loki,” Owen Wilson starred as Time Variance Authority (TVA) agent Mobius M. Mobius. His character, an emotional but straightforward agent, was placed in charge of interrogating and monitoring Loki. However, he surprised his superiors when he decided to give Loki a chance and the opportunity for them to solve cases together.
Wilson’s role in “Loki” was a deviation from his normal comedic roles in movies like “Wedding Crashers,” and “Wonder.” However, as a veteran in the industry, Wilson demolished his role as Mobius. In an interview with Variety, Wilson spoke about joining the MCU and how he didn’t know much before “Loki.” The actor noted:
“I was pretty much a blank slate, other than knowing, you know, certainly the Iron Man and the Hulk, and, you know, knowing the characters, and then Aquaman.”
The actor also credited co-star Hiddleston for helping him get acquainted with the universe and his character. Wilson explained someone showed him what his character Mobius looked like, and the director Kate Herron read him the script. Hiddleston also helped by explaining all the mythology and answering questions about Loki and his relationship with Thor. He also added:
“Tom’s very articulate, and the way sometimes he explains something is very good, and I would use that sometimes for Mobius to parrot it back to him about himself.”
Meanwhile, multiple fans praised Wilson for how impressive he played Mobius. Some went as far as dissecting the way he said a lie and his overall aura and charisma. The actor also received huge plaudits for leaving a mark on the Marvel fandom from his first role in the franchise.
Will Loki Return For Another Season?
Since the season 1 finale of Loki aired on July 14, 2021, fans of the Disney+ series started clamoring for a sequel. However, with so many uncertainties regarding Marvel phase 5, the question remained unanswered for a while. As a result, producers released no details about new characters or storylines until a surprise teaser at D3 Expo 2022.
With the release of the teaser, Marvel Studios confirmed “Loki” would return to the screens in the summer of 2023. According to the details released, principal photography started in June 2022 and filming wrapped up in mid-October. Also, fans should be excited to learn that season 2 might contain more than six episodes in contrast to its predecessor.
