A new report has sharply criticized the government’s response to the coronavirus pandemic. The report claims that lockdowns, school closures, and vaccine mandates were “catastrophic errors” that resulted in many Americans losing faith in public health institutions.

The report, published by the non-profit Committee to Unleash Prosperity (CTUP), criticizes the government’s role in the crisis. It also offers lessons from the errors mentioned and warns against repeating them. The report suggests halting all binding agreements or pledges to the World Health Organization (WHO).

It also advises term limits for all senior health agency positions and advocates for limiting the powers of health agencies. It claims it will ensure they are strictly advisory and do not have the power to set laws or mandates.

The report, titled “COVID Lessons Learned A Retrospective After Four Years,” opposes granting unprecedented powers to public health agencies. It claims that many of them impose strict limits on fundamental civil liberties.

Hence, they had little positive benefit and instead helped stoke fear among the public. “Conventional wisdom pre-COVID was that communities respond best to pandemics when the normal social functioning of the community is least disrupted,” the report said.

“During COVID, the public health establishment followed the opposite principle: they intentionally stoked and amplified fear,” it continued. “Which overlaid enormous economic, social, educational and health harms on top of the harms of the virus itself.”

The report’s authors are Scott Atlas, M.D., Steve Hanke, Ph.D., Philip Kerpen, and Casey B. Mulligan, Ph.D. The paper draws on various reports and research papers that studied the pandemic. “SARS-CoV2 was a dangerous virus, but a calm response would have applied the lessons from past pandemics,” the paper reads.

“And used existing pandemic response plans.” “Instead, from the moment they detected the virus in America,” the paper continued. “The public health community and politicians spread an outsized message of fear and doom.” In addition, the report claims that lockdowns did not work to reduce deaths or substantially stop viral circulation.

Although they timed them to claim credit for declining waves of the virus, the report says they “rarely had any discernible casual impact.” Furthermore, the authors claimed the lockdown impacted people’s health negatively as they canceled several medical procedures, stoking fear.

Besides negatively impacting people’s health, the report says the government’s response affected children. It asserts that school shutdowns caused dramatic and irrefutable damage to children. Also, it claims that 300,000 cases of child abuse were unreported in the spring of 2020.

Furthermore, the paper says school dropouts, social isolation, and drug abuse, amongst others, skyrocketed. The authors also questioned the effectiveness of the enforcement of mask rules. They claimed masks had little or no value and were possibly harmful.

They claimed it amplified fears by “creating the irrational belief that an unmasked face presented a threat.” Also, they said it caused conflict and division among citizens, giving high-risk people false hopes that masks were protective.

Furthermore, the report blasted the CDC for its mask-up policy. The report claims 171,000 non-COVID excess deaths from April 2020 through the end of 2021. However, it claims there were none in Sweden, which did not lock down despite the heavy pressure.
