They say, “Get help” when people are experiencing any form of domestic abuse. However, what happens when one does get help, but it’s not enough to save them? This is the sad case of Theresa Cachuela, an Instagram influencer whose husband fatally shot her around the end of December.

Just two days before he killed her, Theresa got approval from a judge who gave her a restraining order against him. The couple had been together for about eleven years and had three children together.

Initially, they were a beautiful couple, and things were going quite well. However, things started to go downhill when her husband, Jason Cachuela, began to abuse her. He was violent with her, and Theresa feared for her safety and that of her kids, so she left him.

Therefore, she filed a petition for a temporary restraining order against Jason on December 8, 2023. Two days before that, he allegedly threatened to kill himself in front of Theresa and the kids. According to the petition, he lured her somewhere alone and put a knife to her throat, traumatizing her.

The following day, Jason showed up at her house, apologizing profusely for his actions. However, he continued with the suicidal threats. She avoided him, and he left but returned later that evening. He tried to break into her garage and said he would kill himself right there if she didn’t come out.

Scared out of her mind, Theresa called 911, and they conducted a wellness check. The following day, around 6 a.m. on December 8, the Instagram influencer was letting her son into the garage when Jason emerged from under her car.

Again, she reported this to the police and immediately filed the petition for a restraining order that very day. On December 19, a judge served Jason with the notice and made the temporary restraining order official on December 20. Jason and Theresa appeared in court that day and agreed to a one-year order, set to expire on December 20, 2024.

The court also prohibited him from contacting Theresa unless it was regarding a minor child, and he was ordered to give up any firearms. Sadly, all these precautions did not do much to help Theresa eventually. Just two days later, Jason shot and killed Theresa in a park on Friday, December 20.

Jason, 44, followed Theresa and shot her multiple times in a parking lot near Pearlridge Center in Waimalu, near Honolulu. Around 10 a.m., Honolulu police responded to a “suspicious circumstance” in the parking lot and found her dead with gunshot wounds. They pronounced her dead at the scene and took her remains to a nearby hospital. What’s more, her 8-year-old daughter was present at the scene and watched Jason kill Theresa.

However, they didn’t find anyone else in the area. As expected, their first suspect was Jason, and they began looking for him. According to police reports, he fled the scene after killing her, and the police found him dead found dead in an apparent suicide with a gun.

When news of her murder broke, her 20,000+ followers on Instagram took to her comment section to offer condolences to her family. It was a sad day for the IG influencers committee, and many fondly remember Theresa for her strong spirit and unwavering smile.
