According to John Ramsey, the police are waiting for his death to free themselves from a burden. Ramsey is the father to JonBenét Ramsey, the victim of a cold case homicide, which he believes the police are uninterested in solving.

On December 26, 1996, 6-year-old JonBenet Ramsey was reported missing from her home. Unfortunately, she was later found dead in her basement with a cord around her neck, indicating she was strangled. Consequently, an autopsy was carried out by the Boulder City Medical Examiner to ascertain the cause of death.

According to the autopsy, JonBenet had died on December 25, 1996, a day before she was reported missing. The autopsy had confirmed that she was indeed strangled to death after she was beaten severely. The autopsy had revealed JonBenet had suffered a 22cm fracture on her skull.

After the revelation, Ramsey and his late wife Patsy Ramsey were arrested as the crime suspects given the circumstances surrounding the death. Upon further investigation, they were found innocent and removed from the potential suspects list. For the past two decades, there has been no further progress with the case remaining unsolved.

Consequently, Ramsey has spoken out, accusing the Boulder authorities of being uninterested in solving the case. On Friday, May 31, 2024, Ramsey had an interview where he spoke about the case and his opinion.

According to Ramsey, he claimed he heard from a reliable source that the police were waiting for him to die. The 80-year-old man added that the police believe upon his death there will be no more pressure to solve the crime. Ramsey had said that while that statement was disgusting, he was not surprised about the statement.

According to Paula Woodward, she claimed that she heard a Boulder Police officer make the statement. Woodward is an investigative journalist who has been researching the homicide since it occurred.

Ramsey in response to statements claims he wasn’t going to die, not until his daughter’s murder was solved. Additionally, he claimed in the possibility of his death, his son, John Andrew Ramsey would continue in his place. Ramsey acknowledged Andrew’s dedication in ensuring the murderer of JonBenet was found.

According to Ramsey, he is pushing for the homicide case to be transferred to the FBI for investigation. Additionally, he requested for an independent forensic company to run an examination on the evidence that was recovered including one that was previously untested.

This evidence includes underwear JonBenet had worn at the time of her death. In 1997, when the underwear was taken for forensics, it found DBA evidence of an unidentified man. The items also included the cord that was found around her neck and a suitcase the perpetrator had used as a means to escape. Additionally, there was a ransom note that the family had discovered on the morning of December 25, 1996.

Ramsey claims that based on his understanding, the item remains untested despite being in their possession for almost 3 decades. In December 2023, the Boulder Police Department claimed that they were partnering with the Colorado Cold Case Review Team to help with homicide. They also claim that an active was still ongoing and they were consulting with their federal and state partners.

The department stated that it moved all evidence to digital storage, which involves thousands of interviews from 17 states, samples from 200 individuals, and 2,500 evidence pieces.

Governor of Colorado Jared Polis is similarly of the opinion that contemporary DNA technology will solve the case. In 2022, he said that the killer of JonBenét Ramsey should not rest easy because he believes they will be caught using current or future technology.
