Isaac Newman, a white educator specializing in history, filed a daring legal action against his local National Education Association affiliate in California.

According to Newman the association, hindered him from getting a top position, solely because of his race. In his statement, Newman emphasized a glaring infringement of his civil rights, claimed he was denied the position because of his skin color.

The union’s choice to reserve positions in leadership for people of color puts it in the center of this conflict.

Newman felt prejudiced and discriminated against as a result of this action.

In his case, Newman seeks to annul the association’s choice to create a “BIPOC At-Large” position.
