Hawaii residents are furious about Meta founder Mark Zuckerberg’s plan to construct a massive compound on their land. Zuckerberg himself hasn’t hidden the plan, which seems to be backed by a long-held fantasy. 

While some are excited about the proposed building, which could be one of the world’s most fascinating fortresses, many Hawaiians aren’t impressed. Let’s find out why.

Remember the name. It could become one of the most famous names for private compounds soon. That’s because it is the name on Zuckerberg’s mind for the building project. Koolau Ranch will sit on 1,400 acres of land in Kauai, Hawaii. 

Investigation revealed that the project would gulp a massive $270 million from the tech billionaire. The compound is suspected to house two gigantic mansions.

Apart from the two mansions, the compound is also expected to accommodate other facilities. These could include a gym, a spa, a tennis court, guest houses, multiple pools, and a bunker.

One mansion will be bigger than the other, according to findings. The bigger one will contain 30 bedrooms and 30 bathrooms plus guesthouses. The compound will also contain 11 treehouses connected by rope bridges.

The compound will be a paradise of tunnels. According to reports, Zuckerberg plans for each facility to connect to another through a network of tunnels. But one tunnel would be special. 

The final tunnel will lead to a well-fortified underground bunker. This bunker will have a blast proof door, a living space, a mechanical room, and a concrete and steel door.

One would have thought that the Hawaii residents would be happy to host the abode of yet another billionaire. But the reverse is the case. The natives of Kauai are not satisfied for several reasons. 

First, they are distressed by the high level of secrecy that has shrouded the project. Zuckerberg wants people to know that he is building something big, and that’s all.

Contractors for the project, both past and present, has signed nondisclosure agreements. Former workers have disclosed that they worked under heavy monitoring and security to preserve the secretiveness of the venture. 

Moreover, some have stated that the project’s managers sacked them for posting information about the building on their social media accounts. According to David, a former contract employee, “It’s fight club, we don’t talk about fight club.”

Locals are enraged over the means of acquiring the land for the project. It looks like Zuckerberg obtained a portion of the land through immoral means by forming “shell” companies to make the purchase for him. 

Investigations by journalists show that these companies used the instrument of the court to compel locals to part with their stakes in the land or bid against Zuckerberg for the lands at auction.

Truth be told, some of the land owners who may have to sell them to Zuckerberg never knew until now that they owned the land. It was a genealogical research that Zuckerberg sponsored that revealed their ownership. 

Nonetheless, Zuckerberg referred to this in his defense. “For most of these folks, they will now receive money for something they never even knew they had. No one will be forced off the land,” Zuckerberg posted on Meta, formerly Facebook.

Zuckerberg used the opportunity to comment on the allegations and state his love for the people of Hawaii. He also noted that his presence in their territory would be advantageous to its people. 

“We love Hawaii and we want to be good members of the community and preserve the environment,” he wrote. “We look forward to working closely with the community for years to come.”

Zuckerberg’s plan to create a highly fortified bunker on the property has caused some of the residents to worry. Does Zuckerberg know about an impending apocalypse? 

The compound will also contain a gigantic 18-foot high, 55-foot wide water storage facility and a water pump. People, however, wonder if Zuckerberg is building the facility as an emergency measure in the event of a global catastrophe.
