As the season of love approaches, many people are going on more dates in hopes of not spending Valentine’s Day alone. A single man who goes by “Water Boy” (@TheWaterBoy) on TikTok claims to be confused by the ‘current’ dating scene.
He posted a video online talking about how he asked a girl he met on Tinder, the online dating app, to split the bill with him on their first date. In his video, he explained his view, saying since modern-day feminism demands equality, women should accept all that comes with it.
However, the TikToker received a lot of backlash and criticism for his take. It also caused a heated debate, and the video went viral, amassing more than 6.5 million views.
According to his version of the story, he asked the girl out on a date after talking to her for a few days on Tinder. They had a good time, and it wasn’t “awkward.” However, things went left when she ordered an appetizer that he didn’t want or touch.

Therefore, he asked her to split the bill with him, and she was not having it. From her point of view, he asked her out on the date, and he was responsible for paying. The two went back and forth, but she ended up paying her part.
They bickered more on their way home, and she reportedly got to her place annoyed. The man claims to be surprised by this behavior and does not understand what he did wrong.
“Women are only feminists until it comes to certain things that they don’t want to do,” he said in an interview with Fox News Digital. “Everybody’s a feminist until it’s time to split the bill.”

“It’s 2024. Women are very independent. [They often say], ‘I don’t need no man. I can take care of myself. I can do this, this, this.’ And so, OK, fine, fair. You don’t need no man. Whatever. So pay your half. Wouldn’t that make sense?” he said.
Other Tiktok users in the comment section came for him and didn’t spare him at all. “Bruh, don’t ever date,” a comment with 10,200 likes said. Another comment with 8,000 likes said, “If you want to be friends only just tell her that.”
However, the man still tried to defend his actions, saying since women don’t want traditional roles, they should not expect them from men. “Women now are not the same. They don’t want to clean. And now, and on top of that, they want support financially,” he said.

“So now that the man is taking care of all of these things, what exactly do you offer me besides being a pretty face, besides being, ‘Oh, she’s hot, she’s bad, she’s got a nice body. Whatever. What can you offer me? And so that’s basically where I’m at nowadays.”
He continued defending himself, saying, “This is not back in the day where women are the prize anymore. You guys don’t understand that yet.”
Clearly, he still does not see the error in his ways. A quick look at his TikTok profile also shows that he makes TikTok about his dating experiences all the time. Therefore, some people believe he is only making these stories up for the engagement he gets from them.
