Since becoming an item in 2006, television icons, John Legend and Chrissy Teigen, have been the ideal definition of “relationship goals.“
Celebrity couple John Legend and Chrissy Teigen have topped the charts of the most enviable couple since their first hookup. With over a decade and two children between them, the couple’s love life still blossoms like a typical high school romance, making them the cynosure of all eyes.
The two have hit several milestones together and overcome, from their one-day breakup to challenges with their careers, having kids, and starting a family. Yet somehow, they manage to make their relationship full of life, love, and shared accomplishments, in the full glare of the public. It almost seems these two have known each other for a lifetime, even if it all began in a day, some years back.
THEIR FIRST HOOK-UP
The amazing pair of musician and model, Legend and Teigen, first met in September 2016 during the shooting of Legend’s “Stereo” music video. Teigen, at the time, featured as the music star’s love interest in the video, leading them to spend half the day together.
They hooked up later that night, when she showed up at his hotel to bid him goodbye —Teigen revealed in a 2014 sit-down with Wendy Williams. Following their first meeting, however, the lovebirds took it slow for months. Their love story became official several months later.
A BREAK-UP TO REMEMBER
The relationship timeline of this duo is never complete without recounting one mistake Legend would have lived to regret had Teigen not stepped up to prevent it. Months into their relationship, the music star developed cold feet and called it quits with Teigen.
The model understood at the time that he was under pressure and substantial stress from his ongoing tour, so she stuck around. His decision to break up lasted just for a day, as barely 24 hours later, he realized what a priceless gem he almost lost. That encounter still makes for a good couple’s joke between them.
A NEW BEGINNING IN ITALY
Italy would always remain a significant part of the couple’s love story. John Legend’s wife has been known to refer to Lake Como as “where it all began,” in her posts. The duo made their first trip to the breath-taking Italian location in 2007 for a romantic getaway.
During that trip, Teigen realized she wanted to spend the rest of her life with the icon. She ultimately made a wish to become his wife during a boat cruise on the Lake. The wish came true years later, she recalled in an Instagram post.
FIRST RED CARPET APPEARANCE
Their red carpet debut as a couple came in 2008, during the Grammys. The appearance together made the pair of John Legend and Chrissy Teigen a worthy topic for the tabloids for months.
THE BIG PROPOSAL
The couple dated for four years after their first encounter before Legend popped the big question at a romantic Christmas getaway in the Maldives. The planned proposal almost went wrong, but in the end, he got a “yes.”
Teigen once recounted how they got into a fight in the car on their way to the airport because she considered Legend’s Christmas present to her insignificant. They overcame that and met another prospective glitch when airport attendants insisted on searching through their bags. That would have led them to discover a well-hidden engagement ring, and ruin the planned surprise; Legend shared on “Oprah’s Next Chapter.” Luckily, everything turned out fine.
WEDDING BELLS
On September 10, 2013, Legend legally became Chrissy Teigen’s husband following a courthouse wedding in New York.
The next day, they finalized their nuptial ties with a glamorous wedding in their romantic Italian spot in Lake Como, the origin of their love.
JOHN LEGEND’S “ALL OF ME” VIDEO SHOOT
Legend and Teigen did a second video shoot. This time, not only was the 34-year-old model his love interest, but he also dedicated the song solely to her. They shot the video in their beautiful Lake Como spot. The music video featured numerous clips and picture slides from their actual wedding.
WELCOMING TWO NEW ADDITIONS TO THE FAMILY
Two years after their marriage, and a brief infertility struggle, the couple finally became expectant parents. They made the big reveal on social media. On April 14, 2016, the lovebirds welcomed their daughter, Luna Simone Stephens.
Barely two years after Luna’s birth, the pair welcomed their second child, Miles Theodore Stephens. The couple revealed his birth on social media on May 17, 2018.
Both of John Legend’s kids were conceived via IVF.
A LEGENDARY FIFTH ANNIVERSARY PRESENT
In September 2018, Legend won his first Emmy Award for his role as the executive producer of “Jesus Christ Superstar Live In Concert,” adding to his previous Grammys, Oscar, and Tony wins. The big win made him the first African-American celebrity to become an EGOT winner.
Coincidentally, John Legend’s EGOT status came about on the fifth anniversary of his courthouse wedding in New York City.
The couple honored the anniversary of their Italian wedding on September 11, 2018, with heartfelt social media tributes.
HAPPY FATHER’S DAY
In June, the couple marked a major milestone in their marriage together as they celebrated the 2020 father’s day. Without letting herself become daunted by the lockdown of major social centers and the imposed quarantine, Teigen planned a father’s day special for her husband.
The two ended up going on their first actual dress-up date in months in their backyard! Legend took to Instagram to gush about how much he cherished the surprise.
Legend and Teigen are undoubtedly a pair made for each other, and their love is set to blossom for many years to come.
