These days, the cost of living in the United States continues to rise, and people are looking to move abroad. Those leaving are setting their sights on places that won’t stretch their financial limits.

Fortunately, a few places are so affordable that with enough savings, you could quit your job or work part-time and still live luxuriously. The countries below are great destinations for retirees or people with healthy saving accounts.

Uruguay

Currently, the cost of living in the United States is above $2,000, with rent for one person quoted at an average of $1,399 per month. If you are tired of working from 9 to 5, you may consider Uruguay.

The country is exquisite, with nearly 400 miles of coast, rolling hills, and four seasons. The cost of living is about $1,143, and depending on the neighborhood, you can find a lovely apartment for as low as $526 per month.

Spain

This place is one of the best places to move to. Especially if you are interested in vibrant cultural and art scenes. The European country has a rich history and offers excellent healthcare with a versatile geography.

The cost of living in Spain is approximately $1,246 per month. But that value might increase the closer you get to bigger cities or resort beach towns. However, even in the most expensive neighborhoods, the standard of living will be somewhat cheaper than the average cost of living in the U.S.

Malta

It looks like a place reserved for the world’s elites, but that couldn’t be farther from the truth. The island offers a surprisingly affordable cost of living at $1,340 per month.

It is surrounded by the clear blue waters of the Mediterranean Sea, which is simply stunning. Rent is a bit on the expensive side, but this largely depends on where you live.

France

France is a great bargain for anyone willing to live on a budget. The cost of living in the country is $1,451, which is 1.53 times less expensive than in the U.S. You get to enjoy low-cost healthcare, one-of-a-kind destinations, and villas that cost less than $200,000.

Ecuador

This place is excellent if you want a cheap, safe space with a very comfortable year-round climate. The cost of living for one person in the country is $785.

Your eyes will have much to feast on as Ecuador is geographically diverse, with endless beaches, mountains, and rainforests. Housing is affordable, with the average rent for one person costing around $322 per month.

Whether you’re a retiree looking for a slower-paced area to live in or a young adult looking to escape the high costs of the States, Ecuador, like many other countries listed above, is a great choice.
