In a surprising upset, a 21-year-old college junior from North Carolina has secured victory in the GOP primary, defeating a 10-term incumbent state representative and setting his sights on the November general election.
Wyatt Gable, who hails from North Carolina’s 14th District, emerged triumphant after narrowly defeating 81-year-old incumbent state Rep. George Cleveland by 95 votes in the Super Tuesday election. Cleveland had held the position for two decades, making Gable’s victory remarkable.
Appearing on “Fox & Friends” following his historic win, Gable attributed his success to sheer hard work. “A lot of doors knocked, a lot of phone calls made, and just a lot of people helping me out, and I appreciate it,” he remarked.
Expressing confidence about his prospects in the upcoming general election, Gable highlighted the predominantly red nature of the 14th District, noting the significant presence of Republicans and independent voters who lean towards the GOP.

Despite this confidence, he emphasized his commitment to putting in the same effort for the general election as he did for the primary.
Gable’s foray into politics was inspired by his experiences during the COVID-19 pandemic, during which he perceived governmental overreach and a lack of responsiveness from his then-representative, George Cleveland.
Reflecting on this, Gable recalled reaching out to Cleveland without receiving a response, which fueled his determination to make a difference.

With his primary win secured, Gable is turning his attention toward the issues he aims to address if elected. His platform centers on education, confronting China’s threat, and reigning in government spending.
He advocates for a return to the basics in education, including courses in home economics and carpentry. He also highlights the need to address Chinese ownership of land in North Carolina and advocates for responsible fiscal policies.
Beyond his policy agenda, Gable sees his candidacy as an opportunity to inspire other young Americans to engage in politics and consider joining the Republican Party. By breaking barriers as a 21-year-old candidate, he hopes to encourage greater participation and representation from younger generations in conservative politics.
