Popular American singer-songwriter Bebe Rexha has taken to social media to share a controversial statement accusing the music industry. The singer accused the music industry of silencing and punishing her.
On Tuesday, July 2, 2024, Bebe Rexha took to her X platform to express her anger and frustration. The 34-year-old singer wrote that she could bring down a huge part of the music industry.
She continued that, despite the number of people pointing to obvious signs of her maltreatment, she was oblivious to them. She added that the industry silenced and punished her every time she spoke up about it. However, she wrote that things must change as she will be telling all the truth without exception.
In response to her tweet, one of her supporters wrote that she should not forgive anyone who participated in removing her name from the credits of ‘Hey Mama.’ Rexha responded to the fan that, compared to her other untold truths, that issue was irrelevant.

In March 2015, Rexha was featured alongside Nicki Minaj and Afrojack on David Guetta’s “Hey Mama.” However, despite her contributions, she wasn’t properly credited for it. When she requested that she be properly credited, she was told the song had too many features, which they claimed was unusual for EDM songs.
However, it wasn’t until June 2015 that she was credited as a feature on the song after her conversation with Guetta and her lawyer’s involvement. A fan asked Rexha what was preventing her from speaking her truth, and she replied that one gets punished for doing so.
Another supporter had responded to her tweet that doing this during the release of her new song was perfect timing. She had told the fan that she was not doing any promotion as she had no budget for marketing. On June 28, 2024, Rexha released a new single named “I’m The Drama.”

Following her initial outrage, Rexha attempted to clarify her tweet in a follow-up tweet. She stated that her earlier tweet was not coming from a place of anger but sadness. She stated that she was in her hotel room, crying and sad, as she had felt hopeless for a while.
However, walking through London and meeting fans was a breath of fresh air for her and sparked something in her. She wrote. “Honestly you all have given me the strength.” However, it is to be noted that the reason behind Rexha’s outburst remains unclear, although this isn’t her first time calling out the industry.
In 2021, during an interview, Rexha said that, as a woman in the industry, she felt the need to compete and compare herself while writing her songs. In June 2024, she questioned why G-Eazy, a former collaborator, used a group chat instead of messaging her directly.

She shared her message along with a screenshot of a group chat message asking if she wanted to shoot content with G-Eazy in New York. Rexha said that she could start mentioning all the terrible things he did to her after helping him with his only real hit and her answer was no.
Shortly after, she took down the Instagram Story, confessing on X that “my team member forced me to remove my Instagram story.” She stated that it felt so nasty and terrible that she decided to remove it.
