Texas State Governor Warns That Surge in Chinese Immigrants is “an Existential Threat”

Since the beginning of the fiscal year, thousands of Chinese nationals have hit the southern border of the United States. According to the government data, that is more than the previous ten years combined. Over the past decade, border patrols caught fewer than 15,000 Chinese migrants crossing the southern border illegally.

With thousands evading Border Patrol, the U.S. continues to tackle a migrant crisis, resulting in national security concerns. Consequently, Texas State Governor Gregg Abbott has slammed Joe Biden’s “open border policies.”

He labeled them an “existential threat” after the southern border witnessed an influx of illegal Chinese migrants. Abbott said Texas takes on the responsibility of handling the border with measures like the buoys along the Rio Grande.

“It is extraordinarily dangerous because, first of all, as you point out, we have people from China coming here,” Abbott said in an interview with Fox News. “We also have people on the known terrorist watch list who are coming across the border.” He added, “And there’s extraordinary dangers, calls to our country by Biden’s open border policies.”

In addition, the Texas State Governor also slammed Biden for his lack of action in the situation. He said, “Biden is doing nothing about it.” He said that’s why Texas had to step up with S.B. 4, which allows the state to apprehend undocumented migrants. In addition, Abbott said S.B. 4 will make sure the undocumented migrants are not posing a threat to the state.

“But this is a very serious existential threat to our country caused by Joe Biden,” Abbott added. “And that’s exactly why Texas is taking extraordinary steps to try to crack down on it.” According to Fox News, Customs and Border Protection sources said that since October 1, 2023, over 6,500 Chinese nationals have entered the U.S.

However, aside from the Chinese migrants, hundreds of Afghans and other nationalities have evaded border control to cross through Mexico. Consequently, a Republican congressman urged the deployment of Arizona’s National Guard to the southern border. The U.S. representative for Arizona’s 6th congressional district, Juan Ciscomani, made the request.

His request came after nearly 10,000 people crossed the border in a single day. He said that the Tucson Sector of the border had been overwhelmed by the number of crossings. Consequently, Ciscomani said the border patrol officials needed urgent support.

“The situation is far past a breaking point, and those on the frontlines of this crisis need immediate support,” Ciscomani wrote in his letter demanding help. “Tucson Sector is leading in encounters, and our agents and officers are overrun and undermanned.”

In addition, Ciscomani sent his plea to Director of Homeland Security Alejandro Mayorkas. Biden’s administration previously deployed troops to the border earlier this year in anticipation of a surge in migrant crossings.

However, illegal border crossings have surged in the U.S. in recent years. According to reports, the 2022 fiscal year set a record high of 2.2 million illegal border crossings.
