According to expert dermatologists, showering daily is essential to one’s health and body. For most people, bathing in the morning seems healthier and more hygienic than bathing at night. However, according to experts, it doesn’t matter when one bath is taken as long as it is done daily.
While it does not matter when there is a possibility of you being branded a dirty pig if you choose night over morning. According to a Cleveland Clinic dermatologist, Alok Vij, M.D., if one should ask a hundred doctors about it, the answer would be different a hundred times. Although Vij admitted that it all comes down to one’s personal preference.
Although Vij believes there is a certain answer to the question of morning vs. evening showers about a person’s hygiene. However, he said that the answer comes with specific conditions and qualifiers.
Vij said that he thinks a person must bathe once they participate in any activities that make them dirty or sweaty. He also encouraged night showers when a person has used any form of chemical spray, such as bug repellent, sunscreen, and perfume.

Additionally, Vij said, “If you haven’t, if you’ve been living a clean life and you didn’t work out … there’s not necessarily a better time to shower.” According to Mayo Clinic dermatologist Dawn Marie Davis, M.D., a person should bathe immediately after the skin becomes dirty, irritated, or sweaty.
Davis acknowledged that while some people have more sensitive skin, others do not. He said that individuals with such skin, especially people with eczema, should try showering at night. He said this because night showers are more effective in removing irritants from the body and improving sleep hygiene.

Vij also suggested that people with psoriasis or eczema might benefit more from night showers before the application of topical treatments. Speaking on such treatments, he said that topical medications are safe to leave on the body while one sleeps.
However, if a person were to prefer night showers, they should ensure sleeping on beds with fresh and clean sheets. Vij said this was because our beds are full of dead skin cells and sweat. The skin is always shedding dead cells every day, with a person losing around 500 million cells daily.
According to researchers at the University of Texas at Austin, they concluded that taking a warm bath or shower one hour before sleeping was beneficial to the body. They claimed it helped the body regulate its temperature and made sleeping at night more enjoyable.

Vij added that “It’s all about making yourself feel as good as possible when you’re presenting yourself to the world.” Vij emphasized the influence of restful sleep on one’s appearance. “By all means, do it if it means taking a shower in the morning or, if you feel better, getting clean before going to bed.”
Speaking for himself, Vij acknowledged that he was more of a morning shower person. He said that it was not until after his morning shower that he was truly awake. However, his wife was his opposite, and his children would prefer to avoid it in total.
