Aniston Has a Difficult Relationship With Her Mother

Jennifer Aniston had a very difficult childhood and was only nine when her father abandoned the family. The actress was left to be raised by her mother, Nancy Dow, and even her elder brother, John, who moved to New York. 

However, throughout this period Aniston and her mother never saw eye-to-eye. The actress revealed this in an interview with “The Hollywood Reporter.” Although things were better between her and Dow, there were years when they didn’t speak.

Aniston noted that her mother had a temper that she couldn’t tolerate. The actress explained that she didn’t get hysterical when she got upset because nobody taught her that she could scream.

However, once, she raised her voice to her mother, who looked at her and busted out laughing. Aniston declared that her mother laughing at her for screaming back was like a punch in the stomach. The actress added

“She was critical. She was very critical of me. Because she was a model, she was gorgeous and stunning. I wasn’t. I never was. I honestly still don’t think of myself in that sort of light, which is fine. She was also very unforgiving. She would hold grudges that I just found so petty.”

Aniston noted that she does not hold grudges and is very forgiving. The actress then questions the point of holding onto anger, noting that it is very toxic. She then stated that we are all human beings and no one is perfect, and being unforgiving will not allow humans to evolve and become better people.

Aniston Once Struggled With Anger Issues

In the same interview, Aniston noted how she struggled with anger for years. The actress explained that she was just discovering out to express it rather than keep it  bottled. Aniston expressed:

“I always thought, if you’re angry, you just don’t say anything. I would come out passive, things would come out passively. But it doesn’t have to be black or white.

However, she now understood that one does not have to be a hysterical human and have veins popping out of their neck to express anger. She also used to loathe confrontation. Although she understood anger, she didn’t know how to express it, and it’s something she has been working on. Aniston does not have kids of her own.

Aniston Was Diagnosed With Dyslexia

Aniston didn’t know she had dyslexia until she was in her early twenties. The actress had gone to get a prescription for glasses because she had to wear one of the “Buddy Holly” glasses.

Once there, she got eyeglasses with a blue lens on one with a red lens. Afterward, she was given a paragraph to read and then ten questions based on what she had just read. The actress got three out of ten questions right, and then they put a computer to show where her eyes went while she read. Aniston disclosed:

‘My eyes would jump four words and go back two words, and I also had a little bit of a lazy eye, like a crossed eye, which they always have to correct in photos.”

The discovery she had dyslexia was life-changing for Aniston. For years the actress had thought she wasn’t smart and couldn’t be certain of anything. However, she was glad all our childhood trauma finally had an explanation.
