The announcement regarding this conflict was made when the trade and territorial disputes showed that the two nations’ ties were worsening.

Details About the Fight

For years, China and the United States have been engaged in a constant fight over dominance. Some analysts have expressed concern that these nonviolent tactics have resulted in a semi-cold war. Also, that may soon turn into something more serious due to rising tensions.

However, it seems that American actions have prevented Chinese aggression. This is especially with the 2010 surfacing of three US Navy missile submarines as a message to China.

Attempt To Intimidate the U.S.

2010 saw the beginning of American authorities’ caution about some of China’s actions. As it seemed the nation was attempting to scare the United States with repeated acts of aggression.

For instance, Chinese military aircraft went quite close to the U.S. Air Force during a missile test that the U.S. Navy was conducting in the East China Sea, just escaping a potentially dangerous confrontation or mishap.

Threats To the Military

Given that China was acting aggressively, this scenario made many American officials consider their ultimate strategy.

Response To China’s Assertive Posture

This action by the U.S. Navy is in light of the assertiveness displayed by China in the South China Sea region. China has been building features and garrisoning them. Besides the concern is because it wants to assert its power in the region.

The coming to the surface of the submarines is also considered as a signal to Beijing that the U.S. will not surrender or be subdued by China. The action is aimed at demonstrating the capability and readiness of the United States in ensuring the right of passage of vessels and the rule of law in the region.

The conflict between China and the United States has been ongoing for a long time. This is due to the fact that China views Taiwan as its actual territory. While the United States supports Taiwan’s independence.

A Show of Force

It is through the deployment of the submarines that the U.S. wants to demonstrate that it is willing and capable of protecting its interests in the Asia-Pacific region from China.

It is also viewed as an attempt to boost confidence in the Asia-Pacific partners like Japan and South Korea that the US is with them.

Diplomatic Effort

On one hand, the surfacing of the submarines is a show of force. On the other, it is also a part of the diplomatic strategy that the U.S. is employing with China to compel it to act responsibly in the Asia-Pacific region.

The South China Sea water channel is an important trade route. Also, it provides passage to a large number of vessels that transport billions of US dollars worth of commodities annually. However, the area also contains a large number of contested islands and territories, which means that it is prone to conflicts between countries.

The U.S. – China Relationship

Nevertheless, the nature of the relationship between the U.S. and China has deteriorated in the recent past due to various factors. This includes trade disputes, Taiwan, and human rights.

Global Implications

Essentially, it can be argued that the emergence of U.S. submarines in the South China Sea is not solely a concern of that region. It sends a message of free navigation all over the world. Additionally, that of the United States of America’s commitment to the rule of law on the seas.
