Owen Wilson movies and Tv shows have raised the actor’s profile as one of the best of his generation. Here are some of his best works.

Since Owen Wilson started his acting career in the 1990s, the actor has given fans several iconic on-screen moments and top-rated movies. Wilson, who is majorly famous for his performance in a range of comedy movies, is also a talented voice actor.

Wilson was born on November 18. 1968, in Texas to his photographer and advertising executive father. As a youngster, the actor attended several schools for different reasons. After he was expelled from St. Mark’s School of Texas, Wilson proceeded to Thomas Jefferson School.  He next attended the New Mexico Military school before moving to the University of Texas at Austin.

While he was studying at the University of Texas, Wilson met Wes Anderson, who would later become a renowned filmmaker. The duo ventured into making movies together, and in 1996, they created the short film “Bottle Rocket.” Afterward, Wilson moved to Hollywood to pursue a full-fledged acting career.

In addition to his acting skills, Wilson is also a very talented writer, and he and Anderson co-wrote “Rushmore” in 1998. The two also partnered up to write “The Royal Tenenbaums,” and “The Life Aquatic With Steve Zissou” in 2004. However, “The Royal Tenenbaums” was the movie that propelled them to Hollywood stardom. 

The film earned Wilson and Anderson an Academy Award nomination for Best Original Screenplay. Since then, Wilson’s acting career only got better. He has starred in multiple box office movies and won countless awards. However, this article will examine Owen Wilson’s must-watch top five films so far in his career. 

Midnight in Paris

Not many people had high hopes for Woody Allen’s “Midnight in Paris” before it premiered in 2011. However, the film would turn out to be a smash hit and a huge critic favorite after its release. “Midnight in Paris,” tells the comedic story of screenwriter Gil Pender (Owen Wilson), who left for a normal walk on the streets of Paris, ignorant of the adventure it would lead him. 

Wilson received huge plaudits for his performance in the film, and so did producer Woody Allen. Jason Best of Movie talk commented on th movie, noting:

“Woody Allen seemed to have lost his fizz as a filmmaker of late, and then he uncorked the sparkling Midnight in Paris, a comic fantasy with all the effervescence of vintage champagne.”

Besides being Owen Wilson’s highest-rated movie on Rotten Tomatoes with a 93% score, the film also grossed $56.8 million at the box office.

Shanghai Noon

The close relationship between Western and Kung fun movies came full circle with the release of “Shanghai Noon” in 2000. The comedic-action film tells the story of a Chinese imperial guard Chong Wang (Jackie Chan), sent to Nevada to rescue the kidnapped Princess Pei-Pei (Lucy Liu). Wang would later form an unlikely partnership with inept outlaw Roy O’Bannon (Owen Wilson), who became a helpful ally in his mission. 

The movie delivered on its promise of well-rounded humor, adventure, and mouth-watering stunts. Chan and Wilson’s performance received huge praise from critics, including the New York Times. “Shanghai Noon” grossed a whopping $99 million at the box office and even spurned a sequel. The movie has an 80% rating on Rotten Tomatoes.

Meet The Parents

Besides Wes Anderson, Hollywood actor Ben Stiller is another famous star who frequently collaborates with Wilson. However, the 2000 movie “Meet The Parents” is undoubtedly one of the pair’s greatest movie collaborations. The film tells the story of male nurse Gaylord “Greg” Focker (Ben Stiller) and his uncomfortable attempts to make a good first impression on his girlfriend’s parents. 

However, his task becomes more complicated with the unexpected presence of his girlfriend’s almost-perfect ex-boyfriend (Owen Wilson). The film delivered on its promise of top-notch physical comedy grossing over $500 million at the box office. The movie received warm comments from critics and also has a rating of 84% on Rotten Tomatoes.

Loki

In 2021, Owen Wilson became the latest Hollywood actor to join the MCU when he got cast to appear in the limited series “Loki.” The series follows mischief god and Thor’s brother Loki (Tom Hiddleston) after the events of “Avengers: Endgame.” After stealing the Tesseract, Loki finds himself in big trouble with the Time Variants Authority TVA.


Meanwhile, Owen Wilson co-stars as Mobius, a TVA agent assigned to interrogate Loki. However, the two would later form an unlikely partnership after Mobius decides to take a chance and trust Loki. “Loki” received many positive reviews after its release, and Wilson was praised for his performance. The series has a rating of 92% on Rotten Tomatoes
