Strategists are strategists because they can usually see several moves ahead. However, what Democratic strategist and former Clinton advisor Paul Begala can see now spells only doom for Democrats.
His warning to the democrats follows the release of a special counsel report questioning President Joe Biden’s memory. “Look, I’m a Biden supporter. And I slept like a baby last night. I woke up every two hours and wet the bed. This is terrible for Democrats. And anybody with a functioning brain knows that,” said Begala.
Begala’s words hold a lot of water. He was a chief strategist to the 1992 Clinton-Gore campaign and later served as an adviser to President Bill Clinton in the White House. As such, there is little doubt that he knows his onions.
Special Counsel Robert Hur’s report, which was made public Thursday, found that Biden willfully retained and disclosed classified information. However, according to the report, criminal charges won’t be needed.

The report also revealed that Biden had a “poor” memory, which prompted a fiery response from Biden during a Thursday night press conference. The president, angry, wanted to know why the special counsel would include in his report that he couldn’t recall when his son Beau died.
“I don’t need anyone, anyone, to remind me when he passed away,” Biden said of the special counsel. “How the hell dare he raise that.”
Begala also criticized the president’s response. He believes that an offensive strategy would have been more effective than going on the defense. As far as he is concerned, Biden could and should have done everything but react the way he did.

“What you do is attack. Change the subject. You can’t unring the bell,” Begala said. “I think Biden made it worse, no question about it.” As the November elections slowly approach, Begala said the president needs to buckle up.
“I want to see more Joe Biden, and the gaffes are built in. But instead of simply saying, ‘I’m OK,’ he just simply needs to be on the attack 24/7 for the next 269 days,” Begala said. The race for the president’s seat is slowly reaching a crescendo, but many are still hoping Biden will choose to step down rather than a contest.

As things stand, he is the most likely Democratic candidate, and despite his fallen approval ratings and old age, none of his party members are willing to ask him to sit this one out to avoid helping Trump in any way. The odds don’t look good, but Biden will try his best as he has always done. Whether or not that will be enough is for the future to decide.
