Latest Update on Teyana Taylor and Iman Shumpert’s Divorce Settlement
Teyana Taylor and Iman Shumpert’s divorce is over, as Shumpert has agreed to a multimillion-dollar settlement. The former couple was married for seven years and has two daughters, Junie and Rue Rose.
As for how much Iman will have to pay Taylor, it is stated that “she is set to receive four luxury homes valued at over $10 million, a one-time seven-figure payment, and various luxury vehicles, including a $300,000 Maybach, a $70,000 Mercedes Sprinter, and a tour bus.” While Taylor is to maintain full ownership of her businesses.
Additionally, the court requires Shumpert to pay $8,000 monthly in child support for their two daughters. He is also to cover their private school tuition expenses, ensuring that their children will be well provided for. Shumpert also agreed he’ll pay health insurance for major medical expenses but will split the cost of the children’s other health services with Taylor.
Does Teyana Taylor Have More Money Than Iman?
Thirty-four-year-old American singer, songwriter, actress, model, dancer, and creative director Teyana Taylor is currently worth $5 million. Her net worth primarily comes from music, acting, directing, fashion, and brand partnerships.
On the other hand, Iman Shumpert, also 34, is a professional NBA basketball player and musician. According to Celebritynetworth, he is worth $16 million and has earned over $48 million in salary during his NBA career, which started in 2011 and ended in 2021.
But the star athlete hasn’t played pro ball since the 2021 season, when he played 2 games with the Brooklyn Nets. Shumpert has also gathered wealth from the entertainment industry and has real estate investments in Atlanta, River Forest, and Studio City.
Based on their net worth, you could say that Shumpert has more money than Taylor. However, during their divorce proceedings, court documents obtained by TMZ revealed that Shumpert expressed that there was a big pay gap between their finances. He told the judge overseeing their divorce that Taylor earned nearly double what he makes monthly.
According to Shumpert’s calculations, Taylor’s monthly income is around $ 94,000, almost double the $48,000 Shumpert said he brings home every month. So, if this comparison was based on their monthly income, it is very likely that Teyana Taylor earns more monthly than Iman Shumpert.
Why Did Teyana Taylor and Iman Shumpert Separate?
Taylor filed for divorce in January 2023, but she didn’t announce their separation until later that year, in September. This isn’t the first time, as she reportedly filed for divorce in 2022 but withdrew the filing the next day. The reason for their separation was first a subject of speculation, as various sources have tendered several explanations, like cheating.
However, the multitalented actress shared on her Instagram that infidelity was not one of the reasons behind their split. She said, “We are still the best of friends, great business partners, and are one hell of a team when it comes to co-parenting our two beautiful children.”
What then led to their divorce? According to the court documents, Taylor cited that Shumpert’s jealousy of her fame caused their marriage to fall apart. She alleged that “he grew insecure when photographers requested him to step out of the frame for pictures of her. And this made him feel like he wasn’t good enough for her, despite earning way more NBA money.”
She also added that this led to him displaying extreme narcissistic behaviors and cruel treatment throughout the major part of their marriage.
According to TMZ, the filing also claims that Shumpert “emotionally and mentally abused Taylor” and allegedly “did not want her to work” when she had their kids. She also alleged that Shumpert was under the influence and smoking weed while with their daughters.
He allegedly failed to feed them while they were under his care and once sent them to Chicago’s United Center Arena alone using a ride-sharing app. Nonetheless, Taylor may have moved on romantically, as she was seen attending the Oscars with her new rumored partner, actor Aaron Pierre.
