Other music acts thrilled the crowd at the Sunday, February 9, 2025 event at the Caesars Superdome in New Orleans. Trombone Shorty, Lauren Daigle, Ledisi, and Jon Batiste performed at the pregame show before the Kansas City Chiefs slugged it out against the Philadelphia Eagles.
Mid-way into the game, rapper and multiple Grammy Award-winner, Kendrick Lamar showed up for his performance. Lamar was introduced by Hollywood legend Samuel L. Jackson who was dressed as Uncle Tom. Lamar performed a number of his hit songs such as “Squabble Up” and “Humble.”
As expected, the 37-year-old native of Compton, California, also sang his popular Drake diss track, “Not Like Us.” The track, which became one of the biggest pieces of music in 2024, recently won him a Grammy Award a few weeks ago. But what many never saw coming at the halftime show, was a Serena Williams cameo.

Was Serena Williams in the Kendrick Lamar Halftime Show?
Serena Williams unexpectedly showed up at Kendrick Lamar’s Super Bowl 2025 halftime show performance. The tennis star, who was dressed in a monochromatic blue shirt and mini skirt, came on stage while Lamar sang “Not Like Us.” The sports icon matched the dress with blue and white sneakers.
Serena Williams, 43, who is also a native of Compton, California, did the “Crip Walk” amongst other dance moves. The “Crip Walk” is a popular dance move which originated from Compton in the 1970s. Serena Williams famously did the walk after she won a gold medal at the London 2012 Olympics.
Shortly after the show, Serena Williams posted a video clip of herself on X. She was dressed in the same blue outfit a little while before she came on stage.
“Let’s go Super Bowl halftime??! I died a little,” read the post’s caption. Her appearance is big news due to her previous relationship with Drake. Serena Williams was once in a relationship with the Canadian rapper, and many believe she agreed to come to Kendrick Lamar’s performance to spite him.
As expected, her appearance sent shock waves across social media. The post generated thousands of comments. While many expressed their happiness and excitement at her cameo, others came with knocks for the record Grand Slam holder.
“I love the dance you did. It was cute footwork. You looked amazing!” one user wrote. “Perfect clapback! You got it Sis” and “The c-walk was epic, a little bit of revenge-victory dance won’t kill anyone, or will it?” were some other positive feedback she got.
Some other comments were disapproving. One user wrote, “Stick to tennis mah shouldn’t have done this because it shows you’re still salty about Drake.” Another comment referred to her performance as the “worst halftime show” while another criticized her appearance with “Hey boo you look a mess.”
Did Drake Date Serena Williams?
Yes, Drake and Serena Williams were reportedly once dated. Little wonder, most people believe that her appearance at Kendrick Lamar’s Super Bowl halftime show was a way to get back at him. “Serena been waiting to get that lick back,” wrote popular American sports reporter Jamele Hill on X.
Although neither Williams nor Drake have confirmed that they once tried to have a relationship, a number of indications point to it. The “God’s Plan” rapper has made multiple references to dating the tennis player in his music.
The pair reportedly had a thing for each other between 2011 and 2015. During this period they were seen together quite a lot. This includes their meeting in a Cincinnati restaurant in August 2015.
