About two weeks ago, Senator Elizabeth Warren tried to rouse congressional Republicans into agreeing to a comprehensive deal on immigration. This came after they blocked a bill earlier this year.
Recently, there have been claims that Biden has developed a habit of using his executive powers as POTUS to bypass Congress. However, Warren, a national advisory board member for President Joe Biden’s reelection campaign, says there is a good reason for it.
According to Warren, Biden’s executive power was the only way to get things done. After all, it now seems Congress contains mostly Republicans who dance to Trump’s tune. She claimed that this was why they blocked the bipartisan legislation to level up border security, among other things.
Warren reminded people of the bipartisan deal that failed to pass. She claimed it was the most significant proof of Congress’s significant bias. She said they were only two days away from signing when Trump said no, causing other Republicans to back out.

According to Warren, there is little else Biden can do if Congress and the Republicans keep blocking him. She says he is only using the tools he has access to because, thanks to Republican manipulation, most resources are inaccessible.
Warren’s sentiments echo among many Democrats. They believe the Republicans don’t want progress because it is an election year, and many still reference them rejecting a bill earlier this year to make their point. Sens. Kyrsten Sinema, I-Ariz.; James Lankford, R-Okla., and Chris Murphy, D-Conn, created the bill.
POLL—Should the U.S. Government Create a Path to Citizenship for Undocumented Immigrants?
If passed, the bill would have implemented funding to beef up border security and additional immigration judges. It would have also allowed Biden to declare a border emergency.
Such a declaration would enable the US to reject migrants if unauthorized crossings averaged 4,000 each day at the southern border over seven consecutive days.
When Congress rejected the bill, Biden resorted to using executive orders to allow his administration to declare such an emergency. Those orders are also what will protect undocumented spouses of American citizens.
Executive power is available for use at the president’s discretion. However, it has limits. For example, he will be unable to create new funding for border security and judges. That money can only be allocated by Congress, and they are as divisive as ever.
