The popular 1990s television series “Beverly Hills, 90210,” which starred American actor Shannen Doherty as high school student Brenda Walsh, dies ultimately at the age of 53 after a protracted fight with cancer.
Publicist Leslie Sloane sent a statement on Sunday, July 14, 2024, confirming Doherty’s death on Saturday 13th of July. Doherty had been open about receiving treatment for breast cancer.

“Actress Shannen Doherty passed away, and I confirm this with a heavy heart. After battling the illness for many years, Doherty lost her fight with cancer on Saturday, July 13. As her longtime publicist, Leslie Sloane revealed in an exclusive statement on July 14.
“Her dog, Bowie, and her loved ones surrounding the dedicated daughter, sister, aunt, and friend. For the family to grieve in peace at this time, they kindly request privacy,” Sloane said.
Shannen Doherty Diagnosis
In November 2023, the Beverly Hills 90210 actress opened up about her Stage 4 breast cancer, which had already spread to her bones. She stated that she didn’t “want to die.”
The star was initially diagnosed with the disease in 2015. “I have more life left in me. I have love left in me and I have more to create. She reported “I’m not done with hopefully changing things for the better. “I’m not done, I’m just not.”
Details on Shannen Doherty’s Sickness
The actress was diagnosed with cancer in March 2015 and declared remission in April 2017, just over two years later. However, by 2019, the disease had returned.
In 2020, Doherty made public her diagnosis of metastatic stage 4 cancer. The actress then disclosed in June 2023 that she had undergone surgery and that the cancer had progressed to her brain.

She started her acting career as a young actor, appearing in popular 1970s television shows like “Our House” and “Little House on the Prairie.”

Her fame was solidified by this performance and subsequent appearances in the TV show “Charmed” and motion pictures including “Heathers,” “Mall Rats,” and “Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back.”

Additionally, the TV series ran from 1990 to 2000 and starred Tori Spelling, Shannen Doherty, Luke Perry, and Jason Priestley, among others. And yet, as she battled the illness, the actress remained committed to her career.
The Onscreen Couple
In an interview in 2019, Shanne Doherty described Perry as a “smart, quiet, humble and complex man with a heart of gold and never-ending well of integrity and love.”
Perry passed away in March 2019 at the age of 52. During her “cancer journey,” she revealed that she and her partner had reconnected. Also, “picked right back up, albeit older and wiser, but that connection stayed intact.”

On July 12, 2024, Doherty signed the divorce papers, and on July 13, 2024, Kurt Iswarienko signed them on the day Doherty passed away. In the final days before she passed away, Shannen Doherty consented to finalize her divorce from her ex-husband Kurt Iswarienko.
Additionally, it was reported that she consented to a “default or uncontested dissolution” of their marriage, signifying that they had settled their differences amicably and outside of court.

Does Shannen Doherty Have Children?
According to reports, the actress has spoken about children on multiple occasions, including her podcast, “Let’s Be Clear.” Before she passed away, Shannen Doherty stated that she wanted children.
But menopause and her continued health issues put an end to her attempts to conceive through IVF. Doherty’s illness had a brief remission in 2017. But it returned in 2019 and he had spread to stage 4 by 2020.
Doherty’s Best Friend Mourns Her Death
Shannen Doherty was Sarah Michelle Gellar’s best friend, and she is mourning her loss. Two days after Doherty passed away from cancer at the age of 53, the 47-year-old actress from “Buffy the Vampire Slayer” shared a heartfelt statement on Instagram.
“How can you possibly put thirty years of friendship into words?” Including old pictures of the couple, Gellar started her post.
An Iconic Star
Throughout her career, Doherty maintained a consistent work schedule. She even dabbled in reality television by competing on Dancing with the Stars and the brief series Breaking Up with Shannen Doherty.
She agreed to participate in the 2019 TV revival of Beverly Hills, 90210, where she would reprise her role as the iconic grownup.
