A year after announcing her battle with cancer, the Princess of Wales, Kate Middleton, has confirmed that she is now in remission. In March 2024, Middleton announced that she had cancer and was undergoing treatment, although she did not mention the type of cancer.
However, on Wednesday, January 14, 2025, Middleton took to her X account to share an update on her medical well-being. “It is a relief to now be in remission and I remain focused on recovery,” Middleton wrote.
“As anyone who has experienced a cancer diagnosis will know, it takes time to adjust to a new normal. I am, however, looking forward to a fulfilling year ahead. There is much to look forward to. Thank you to everyone for your continued support,” she added.
Middleton announced her remission during a surprise visit to the Royal Marsden Hospital in London. Following the news of her remission, Middleton is expected to join Prince William as patron of the Royal Marsden NHS Foundation Trust.
What Kind of Cancer Does Kate Middleton Have?
On March 22, 2024, Middleton shared a video message confirming that she had cancer and was in treatment. This announcement came after the Kensington Palace announcement in January 2024. However, the princess did not specify what type of cancer she was diagnosed with.

Speaking in her emotional video, Middleton began by thanking supporters for their messages during her tough rehabilitation in the last couple of months. Middleton said, “In January, I underwent major abdominal surgery in London, and at the time, it was thought that my condition was non-cancerous.
She continued, “The surgery was successful. However, tests after the operation found cancer had been present. My medical team, therefore, advised that I should undergo a course of preventative chemotherapy, and I am now in the early stages of that treatment.”
Middleton went on to describe the diagnosis as a big surprise to her and her husband, Prince William. She stated that following her diagnosis, it took a lot for her and her husband to process the news in the most beneficial way for their family. She explained to her children, George, Charlotte, and Louis, in an age-appropriate manner and reassured them about her well-being.
Did Kate Middleton Need Surgery to Beat the Cancer?
While Kate Middleton never went into details about her treatment plan, she stated that she was set to undergo prophylactic chemotherapy in the summer of 2024. Subsequently, on September 9, 2024, Middleton announced in a video that she had completed her chemotherapy treatment.

Speaking in the video, Middleton said, “As the summer comes to an end, I cannot tell you what a relief it is to have finally completed my chemotherapy treatment. The last nine months have been incredibly tough for us as a family. Life as you know it can change in an instant and we have had to find a way to navigate the stormy waters and road unknown.”
Additionally, Middleton expressed her excitement, stating that she was looking forward to being back at work. Middleton further added, “This time has above all reminded William and me to reflect and be grateful for the simple yet important things in life, which so many of us often take for granted. Of simply loving and being loved.”
However, in January 2024, following her last public appearance in 2023, Kensington Palace announced that the princess had undergone abdominal surgery. Subsequently, on January 18, 2024, Kensington Palace informed the public that Middleton had a successful surgery and was looking forward to a total recovery.

When Did Kate Middleton Receive Her Cancer Diagnosis?
Middleton revealed her cancer diagnosis and her plans to concentrate on her treatment on March 22, 2024. The March 2024 announcement came in a private video message, where the princess revealed that she is undergoing preventative chemotherapy.
Speaking in his book, “Catherine, the Princess of Wales,” author Robert Jobson discussed Middleton’s 2024 public appearance and events. Jobson wrote, “She is doing things slowly and when she is ready. She isn’t being governed by it being a good-picture opportunity. The health and the proper recovery is what are important.”
