The popular Wooden Robot Brewery in Charlotte, North Carolina, is shutting down indefinitely. This sudden move comes as one of its co-founders died in a factory accident. Therefore, its executives closed both of its branches in South End and NoDa on Tuesday.
They announced on social media that they are closing “until further notice” and “due to unforeseen circumstances.” A couple of hours later, another co-founder, Josh Patton, made a separate post explaining what had caused the sudden shutdown.
He said that an accident occurred earlier that day, claiming the life of Dan Wade. Wade was one of the brewery’s co-founders and the director of operations on their website.”It is with an extremely sad and heavy heart that we share this news,” wrote Patton on Facebook.
“Due to an accident that occurred today, we lost one of our founders, co-owners, and friend, Dan.” Parton also expressed that they are “still in shock and need time to process everything.” Furthermore, he promised to keep their customers updated on their operations.

In conclusion, he wrote, “Your thoughts and prayers for Dan’s family, his wife, and his son are much appreciated at this time.” While the accident itself is not known to the public, a representative for Mecklenburg EMS Agency, commonly known as Medic, gave a statement to USA TODAY.
They said that Medic responded to a fall-related 911 call on Tuesday shortly after 1:30 p.m. at 1440 South Tryon Street. This is the brewery’s South End location. Sadly, they pronounced Wade dead on the scene.
The Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department also notified the state’s Department of Labor’s Occupational Safety and Health (OSH) Division. Therefore, they have assigned a compliance officer to begin investigating the report.

Since they announced the incident, many condolences have been tripping in. Breweries in and around Charlotte have also expressed their shock at this unfortunate event.
Heist Brewer took to Instagram to offer their condolences. “We are incredibly saddened and in complete disbelief with the loss of one of the greatest in the Charlotte brewing community,” they wrote.
We had the pleasure of working with Dan and the crew of Wooden Robot on multiple occasions, and every time was better than the last. He was a wealth of knowledge and an amazing person to be around.”

Another company, Southern Range Brewing, which is a family-owned and operated craft brewery located in Monroe, also put out a statement. “It’s a sad day for the Charlotte area brewing community,” they said. “Our community lost someone really special today,” said Firehawk Brewpub.
Without a doubt, it is obvious that Wade’s death shook the brewery community. Many other people keep saying good things about it and offering prayers for his family. He might be gone, but his legacy lives on in the great company he helped build.
