NBA Hall of Famer Charles Barkley expressed his disapproval of former President Trump’s recent remarks and issued a warning to those who may support the former president’s stance. Trump made comments on Friday in Columbia, South Carolina, suggesting that his mugshot and indictments would appeal to African-American voters.
“You know who embraced more than anybody else? The Black population,” Trump told the crowd. “It’s incredible. You see Black people walking around with my mugshot – you know they do shirts.”
King swiftly attempted to shut down Barkley’s statement, saying, “You don’t mean that.” However, Barkley was adamant in his response. “Oh, I mean that sincerely!” he declared. Despite King’s warning that Barkley could be arrested if such a scenario unfolded, Barkley expressed his indifference to that possibility.
“I’m gonna bail myself out and go celebrate,” Barkley quipped, prompting laughter from the crowd. Continuing, he expressed his strong disapproval, stating, “First of all, if I was at that [conference], I would’ve got up and walked out.

That was an insult to all Black people. To compare Black history, where we’ve been discriminated against, to his plight.” Barkley emphasized that he did not believe Trump equated his situation with that of Black people after being arrested and indicted.
“It’s not a fair comparison,” he said. “He’s a billionaire, he’s had a great life, he’s been President of the United States. To insult Black people who have been discriminated against all these years and put them in the same category, I was just offended.”

One user commented, “Barkley, you also realize Trump has done more for the Black community while President than any democrat has ever done! Unemployment was the lowest it has ever been for Black people!
Maybe it didn’t come over as well as he hoped but Trump would never turn against your community! As an Auburn grad, I have always looked up to Barkley and I hope he makes this right and not into a race battle!”
Another added, “Trump HAD a great life. Until he went to bat for Americans and half of you couldn’t get past a bad personality and a biased seething media. He sacrificed that life and now hundreds of millions of $ out of love for the country.

What would a man have to do to prove his intentions? Intentions that he wears on his sleeve, ultimate transparency, unlike the ‘transitional president’ (his words) that won’t bow out no matter how bad things get or how senile he becomes.”
Another user expressed the opinion that, “Barkley is right, Trump made a dumb comment that could have been avoided with just a little thought before he opened his mouth. Trump has a bad habit of speaking before he engages his mind. This bad habit is the main cause of why so many dislike him.”
