Television personality La La Anthony is among the handful of celebrities that made the most of the quarantine period. The 39-year-old spent the season bonding with her 13-year-old son, Kiyan Anthony.
Spending months indoors during the coronavirus pandemic was a daunting experience, but not for La La Anthony. The television personality spent the lockdown period quarantining with her teenage son, Kiyan.
The 39-year-old, who shares Kiyan with her husband of ten years, Carmelo Anthony, dished on their wonderful quarantine experience in a recent interview.
La La gushed about her relationship with the 13-year-old and how close they were. She added that getting to spend more time with her son while quarantining strengthened their connection.
Going further, the mother-of-one recounted how the lockdown period availed her the opportunity to check in with her kid. The routine, she admitted, helped her realize kids were as affected as the adults by these difficult times. Overall, the period gave way to positive development. She noted:
“So just trying to stay on point with my son, and make sure he’s good and checking with him. But our bond, I feel like now we’re closer than ever. It’s something I’m so grateful for that‘s happened this time.”
Remarkably, the period introduced a new normal to their lives. One that left mother and son sharing a bond deeper than ever.
Kiyan also shares a connection with his father, Carmelo, whom he considers an idol. La La has been open about the teenager’s admiration and love for his father.
Following Carmelo’s signing to Portland Trailblazers, La La referred to her son as “his dad’s #1 fan” via social media. She shared the post alongside a picture of the father-son pair enjoying a moment together just before the basketball player’s move to Portland.
The athlete’s contract with the Trailblazer, which marked his first since Houston Rockets ousted him, attracted congratulatory remarks from fans and celebrities. NBA legends like Dwyane Wade and LeBron James joined the celebratory fest, with Wade noting that it was about time.
Despite being a wonderful opportunity for Carmelo, his contract with Portland Trailblazers had a more significant impact on his family. The trio has been forced to live apart since the move to the new team, putting miles between father and son.
Gladly, Kiyan understood the importance of the opportunity to his dad’s career and was excited about it too. Overlooking the distance, Carmelo’s biggest fan has found other means to keep up with his games.
It can be recalled that Kiyan made the headlines in 2019 after watching his dad’s game via FaceTime. The youngster cheered the loudest as he virtually witnessed the basketball icon lead the Portland Trail Blazers to victory against the Chicago Bulls in his biggest game of the season.
La La Anthony, who was present at the games, FaceTimed the 13-year-old through the game. And following Carmelo’s victory, she let him have a glimpse of Kiyan on her phone screen. In response, the athlete saluted his son from the courts, which made for a memorable father-son moment
From the looks of it, having miles between them has done little to compromise the love and affection that prevails in the beautiful family of three.
