In a new docuseries, Kaitlyn Conley, the New Yorker who was found guilty of poisoning her ex-boyfriend’s mother to death, is speaking out.
Conley, a 31-year-old former receptionist, stars in the three-part Hulu documentary “Little Miss Innocent: Passion. Poison. Prison.” She alleges she was falsely convicted of the 2015 murder of Mary Yoder, her former boss and the mother of her ex-boyfriend, Adam.
Conley speaks up for the first time since her conviction in 2018, adamantly defending her innocence as she describes her allegedly poisonous relationship with Adam and shares her beliefs about who killed Mary and why.
How Kaitlyn Conley Allegedly Poisoned Her Ex-Boyfriend’s Mother
Prosecutors claimed Conley poisoned 60-year-old Yoder, for whom she had worked for four years, in retaliation for Yoder’s son, Adam, according to the Post Standard. Yoder, a Whitesboro, New York chiropractor, died in July 2015.
According to the Post-Standard, police believe Conley poisoned Yoder with colchicine, a gout treatment. According to the Utica Observer-Dispatch, Conley had known Adam since 2011, and the two had dated intermittently before Yoder’s death.
However, their relationship was rocky, and Conley’s defense reportedly claimed at trial that Adam was aggressive and controlling.

Kaitlyn Conley’s Appeal Has Been Repeatedly Rejected
Kaitlyn Conley was convicted of first-degree manslaughter in November 2017 during her second trial. Her first trial ended in a hung jury. She was sentenced to 23 years in jail in 2018 but has maintained her innocence.
Conley filed a motion last year to overturn her conviction and conduct a new trial. Her initial appeals were refused because the courts determined that the lower courts had conducted the proceedings appropriately and that her punishment was not unreasonably harsh.
Conley’s subsequent appeals argued that her attorneys had failed to defend her adequately. For example, her first counsel did not properly fight the search and seizure of her phone, and her second attorney did not contact key witnesses who may have supplied critical testimony.
Oneida County Judge Michael Dwyer refused her motion to annul the conviction in February 2024, arguing that flaws in the previous trial could not be reviewed because it did not result in a conviction.

The Court’sDecision in Kaitlyn Conley’s Case
The decision given by Oneida County was appealed. Syracuse attorney Melissa Swartz reported, “When you get a denial for a 440 motion, you’re not entitled to an appeal.”
“You have to ask for permission from the Appellate Division for an appeal. We filed that motion around the end of February, and on May 17, I received the decision that it had been granted.”
According to the attorney, Swartz will have six months to file a brief after this. After it’s been filed, oral arguments are expected to be held three to four months later. As such, Conley has been granted permission to appeal the denial of her motion to vacate her conviction, implying that there may be grounds for reconsideration.
How Kaitlyn Conley’s Ex-Boyfriend Feels
Adam Yoder, Kaitlyn Conley’s ex-boyfriend, has had a complex and challenging time as a result of his mother Mary Yoder’s poison death. Conley and Adam’s relationship was described as turbulent and toxic, with accusations of violence and manipulation.
Adam’s emotions and experiences were exacerbated by Kaitlyn Conley’s conviction for poisoning his mother, a crime she continues to deny.
This circumstance has had a tremendous emotional impact on him, as he has had to deal with his mother’s death while also dealing with the legal proceedings and the public attention the matter received.

Adam Yoder expressed hatred not only for Conley but also for himself for introducing her to his family. Conley was convicted for killing his mother, and Adam Yoder told the court that he would be tortured by self-hatred for bringing her into the family.
The three-part Hulu docuseries, “Little Miss Innocent: Passion. Poison. Prison,” premiered Friday, September 20 on Hulu.
