After winning the inaugural edition of “American Idol,” Kelly Clarkson became the name in everyone’s mouth. The young beauty from Texas had captivated the whole of America with her fantastic voice for weeks.
Growing up, Clarkson had showcased her vocal prowess in school and church. After high school, she moved to Los Angeles to pursue a career in show business. After years of unsuccessful attempts, she returned to Texas and got on American Idol, eventually winning the competition.
For winning the competition, Clarkson got a recording contract with RCA and a whopping $1 million. She has since released nine albums, further extending her reputation as one of her generation’s top musicians.
Away from music, Clarkson is a mother of two beautiful kids from her marriage to ex-husband Brandon Blackstock. The musician and her former beau looked like the perfect couple for most of their marriage.
Sadly things took a wrong turn between them in 2020, and the pair have ended their nearly seven years of marriage. Below we look at how their romance started and why it ended sourly.
Kelly Clarkson and Brandon Blackstock’s Marriage
Clarkson met Brandon in 2006 during a rehearsal for the Academy of Country Music Awards rehearsal. He is also the son of Narvel Blackstock, Kelly’s manager. Not long after they met, Kelly and Brandon started a romantic relationship.
The pair were really in love, and Brandon, a music manager, even got persuaded to marry Kelly by Blake Shelton, one of the musicians he managed. Blake even promised to perform at their wedding and whatever else they needed him to do.
In March 2012, Kelly also gushed about her boyfriend during an interview “US Magazine.” She explained that Brandon was messing up her creativity because she couldn’t stop writing happy songs.
Brandon finally popped the question in December 2012, and Kelly couldn’t hide her excitement. The singer took to Twitter to announce their engagement, declaring it the happiest night of her life.
In October 2013, Kelly and Brandon finally tied the knot, and once again, she took to Twitter to inform her fans. The “American Idol” alumn revealed she and Brandon got married at Blackberry Farms in Tennesse.
In June 2014, a couple months after their marriage, Kelly gave birth to the couple’s first child River Rose. Then two years later, in April 2016, the pair welcomed a second child, Remington Alexander.
Although the couple kept their family affairs private, Kelly often shares some secrets about their life. For example, the musician once revealed that she and Brandon are much more sexually active than most couples.
Kelly also talked about how they both love going out to experience nature. They both loved visiting the countryside and watching their kids play outside.

The news came after the singer, Brandon, and their kids observed the COVID-19 lockdown at the couple’s ranch in Montana. Kelly even remotely filmed some parts of her “The Kelly Clarkson” talk show at the farm.
Just a couple of months before Kelly filed for divorce, Brandon and their kids made a special video to wish the singer a happy birthday. In the clip, Brandon even declared his love for Kelly. All these culminated in the shock most fans felt when they heard the divorce news.
Why Did Kelly Clarkson Get Divorced?
Although Kelly and Brandon looked like a happy couple, the pair faced marital issues behind the scenes. According to “US Magazine,” the couple disagreed on numerous levels.
“Everyone thought Kelly and Brandon had the perfect marriage, but they definitely didn’t. Brandon is very laid-back, whereas Kelly is pretty high-strung.”
Also, the COVID-19 pandemic was not the only thing that caused a strain on the couple’s relationship. Kelly’s decision to start a talk show in addition to her role on “The Voice” didn’t sit well with Brandon. The latter preferred their quiet life in Nashville to the hustle and bustle of Hollywood.
