John Oliver was among many outraged by Arizona lawmakers’ choice to strengthen the Civil War-era abortion ban,

The host of “Last Week Tonight” had a good laugh at the host’s effort program from CNN  to specifically explain why it’s bad.

As part of his first segment on Sunday night’s show, Oliver emphasized how “terrifying” the potential consequences of this law are, especially since the law itself comes from “ a time when doctors prescribed – and it was true – chloroform for asthma, cocaine for hay fever and smoking enema for cholera.

The host laughed at CNN host’s efforts to show Jim Acosta in showing how bad the Civil War was for a Republican strategist on his show — especially a black man

“Do you want the states? back to Civil War-era reproductive freedom laws?” the host asked. “I mean, women didn’t even have the right to vote at that time.”

“I mean, Jim, I don’t want that.” declared a return to the ‘Pre-Civil War era on any subject, for obvious reasons, right? ‘” The strategist laughed in response, making Acosta realize what he had done speak and reply, “Understood”.

“Yeah, I hope the problem is resolved,” Oliver said after the clip ended, holding back his laughter.

I love that I look at a black man and say the 1860s were bad because women didn’t have the right to vote. I mean, that’s true, but maybe it wasn’t the worst thing people weren’t allowed to do back then!

Elsewhere in the segment, Oliver criticized Republicans for loudly boasting about overturning Roe v Wade for as long as they did and even called out the potential legislation by name hey, and then tried to back out when faced with a backlash following his recovery.

“Republicans own it. They got what they wanted – the overturning of Roe v Wade – and now they have to deal with the consequences of that, which we hope will be true as voters Angry prophets will remove them from office.”
