Every calendar year, shows get canceled, and fans cross their fingers, hoping their favorite show is not next on the chopping block. Before, services did not cancel shows often, and Vulture wrote an article on it in 2016 when Netflix canceled “Bloodline.”

“Netflix did something it’s rarely done in its four-year history of original programming Wednesday: It canceled a show,” the outlet wrote. Now, each year comes with a surprising cancellation or not, and we have compiled a list of shows that streaming platforms have canceled this year.

Netflix is first on our list, with at least four shows canceled this year. The series “The Brothers Sun” is one of the shows they have canceled this year. The action comedy-drama ran for only one season before Netflix canceled it on March 1. It featured big names like Michelle Yeoh and Brad Falchuk.

Another series that Netflix closed the curtains on this year was “Ratched.” The Sarah Paulson series was popular among fans, and it surprised them when they canceled it. It also ran for only one season before they announced its cancellation on February 5.

Still, on Netflix, they canceled “Obliterated” on February 1. The series followed a special forces team celebrating a victory in Las Vegas, but “when the real threat emerges, they must sober up to save Las Vegas.” However, the streaming platform announced its cancellation on February 1 after only one season.

Disney Channel and Disney+ also have their fair share of cancellations. Disney+ canceled “American Born Chinese” on January 5, just a few days into the new year. It ran for only one season and told the story of a young man’s battle for his own identity, told through family, comedy, and action-packed Kung-Fu.”

In addition, Disney Channel announced canceling “Secrets of Sulphur Springs” on January 30. The show ran for three seasons and followed the story of Griffin Campbell and his family’s move into an old hotel that the town believes “is haunted by the ghost of a girl who disappeared over 30 years ago,” according to Disney.

Like Netflix, the streaming service Max has already had many cancellations this year. On January 9, they canceled the series Our Flag Means Death after two seasons. The day after, they canceled “Julia” after the show ran for two seasons.

In addition, they announced that they had canceled “Rap Sh!t,” a series that “follows two estranged high school friends from Miami, Shawna and Mia, who reunite to form a rap group.” Similarly, the canceled “The Flight Attendant” features Kaley Cuoco, who played CIA asset Cassie Bowden. The show ran for only two seasons, too.

AppleTV+, Hulu, and Paramount+ also announced some cancellations this year. Apple TV canceled Schmigadon, Hulu canceled “This Fool,” and Paramount+ canceled “Wolf Pack.” Sometimes, fans are not surprised when platforms cancel shows. However, for some shows that seemed to be doing really well, it is always a huge shock for them.

Therefore, most shows are subject to cancellation at any time, even if fans do not want to let go. There have been cases where fans have been able to plead their case and bring back canceled shows, but that does not happen so often.
