American model, TV personality, and producer Tyra Banks shared her thoughts on what turning 50 feels like for her. According to Banks, when she was much younger, she thought that turning 50 meant being a great granny. She also said she thought she would have little glasses like those grannies we see in movies.

However, she said it didn’t turn out that way. “What my life is like now is totally different from what I thought 50 was going to be when I was a little girl. I’m poppin’. I am not insecure about myself. I ain’t trippin’. I often say, ‘Child, [I’m] 50!’ before I say something. That statement gives me permission to say whatever the heck I feel like saying.” Tyra Banks said.

Tyra Banks shared some things she would like women turning 50 to be aware of. This advice is one she has tried out and is working for her. Her advice to women approaching 50 was that it’s not the end of the world if they are experiencing hot flashes or are yet to. Instead of focusing on that, they can use that time to care for some things.

They can read a book they’ve always liked or solve a crossword puzzle. They can also watch the end of a show they were just so amazed at. “Don’t trip about it,” she said. Tyra Banks also advised that anyone experiencing such moments shouldn’t be ashamed.

She said they shouldn’t be like some parents who usually deny that they are hot-flashing but prefer to pretend and hold it in. Tyra Banks said, “That’s you, and that’s okay, boo.” The renowned model also noted that, in these times, ladies in their 50s don’t have to pretend.

They can go through it and talk to their peers about it without feeling a certain way.

She said this was because embracing her true self felt like a rite of passage. “I have bitten my tongue, said the right thing, and tried to please everybody my entire life. And now, I  speak my truth. I demand respect. And it feels good. I can’t wait until 60 comes along because I’m probably going to be cursing everybody out,” Tyra Banks said.

She also talked about women embracing their natural beauty and all the changes that come with getting old. She stated that society celebrates women, but there is still a long way to go, especially when it comes to the standard of calling a person beautiful when there’s an advancement in age.
