Many who are not from America have been known to blame the country for being too “woke” and particular about political correctness. Yes, some take the woke lifestyle a bit too far, but some have picked up good habits.

Take millennials, for instance. While some don’t like woke ideologies, others have integrated some into their lives. Today, we examine one specific aspect that has seen them exhibit “wokeness” in their shopping habits.

Single-Use Plastics

Millennials care a lot about the environment. If they can avoid it, they will not use plastic products, especially single-use ones. Some simply don’t see the use of disposable items. Instead of using a paper cup, a millennial is more likely to have a travel mug or even a favorite coffee mug at different locations.

Non-Organic Produce

Millennials are aging, which brings with it a fear of sickness. They are often very conscious about their health and what goes into their bodies. This means millennials will rather go for organic produce rather than non-organic ones. They also have a soft spot for locally grown produce as opposed to those provided by large multinational companies. It is healthier, and that way, they can support the local farmers.

Brand-Name Cleaning Product

As they become more conscious about environmental well-being, millennials will look for eco-friendly alternatives to cleaning solutions. They are not easily lured by brand-name cleaning products, especially those that don’t guarantee they were made with “green” products. Some even make their cleaning solutions themselves, the best way to be sure they are actually “environmentally harmless.”

Disposable Diapers

Woke millennial mothers want the best for their babies. That includes eco-friendly and/or non-disposable diapers. They also naturally prefer products that guarantee their babies’ well-being, so those made with organic ingredients are the most popular.

Printed Books

The era of paperbacksand hard cover books has ended, but some millennials would rather have a physical book with pages they can turn than a digital version. Some visit libraries just to have that nostalgic experience of turning a page and getting lost in a book as opposed to reading it through a screen. When they do go digital, some prefer to read graphic novels instead of text-only books.

Clothing

Fashion quickly becomes outdated, and while some try to keep up by getting the latest and best, some woke millennials have set their sights on more sustainable clothing options. Some go for high-quality clothing, while others go to charity shops or stores known to support sustainability practices. So when there’s a tear in their garments, they can mend it, instead of throwing it out to get a new one.

Traditional Banking

Brick-and-mortar banks may still attract the general public, but millennials are now more open to trying out online banking and financial technology options. Not only do digital financial services offer more convenience, easy access, and flexibility, but they can also offer small loans and deals that regular banks don’t.

Cable Television Packages

Streaming services have become the bane of cable TV, and more millennials are catching on. These streaming services lure many because they are not only easier on the pocket but also convenient and flexible.

Traditional Cable Internet

Woke millennials have taken a liking to high-speed fiber optic connections and wireless options as they are more dependable than the archaic cable internet. They have had a taste of swift and reliable connections and will always choose them over slow internet speeds, an unfortunate side effect that was sometimes witnessed with cable internet.

Traditional Gyms

Traditional gyms have become more popular among the younger generations, but millennials seem to prefer a more personal fitness experience now. Some opt for home workout programs, while others engage in community fitness events. They also tend to look more favorably upon opportunities for social interactions.

Traditional Taxi Services

Taxis used to be one of the most preferred ways to get around before, but now there is a proliferation of ride-sharing and transportation apps that are easier on the pocket and convenient. Many of the things on this list are not limited to millennials but there is little doubt the new shopping trends began with those who knew life before social media and are now trying to adapt to life after its inception.
